Spanish newspaper AS is reporting that both Liverpool and West Ham United are interested in Monaco's Tunisian international defender Aymen Abdennour. Monaco's money issues are well documented and despite signing a four year contract last summer, it seems he may still be available for the right price.
The footballer's agent, Abdelkader Jilani, was quoted as saying this to Foot Mercato:
"There are [contacts between Atletico Madrid and Monaco], but there are also [contacts] with teams in Italy, in England and in Spain. As of today, Abdennour has no favourite. Milan, West Ham and Liverpool have shown interest, but he wants to wait for an agreement between clubs before taking a decision."
So there does seem potential for a move here but what would he bring to either Liverpool or West Ham United?

Since joining Monaco, initially on loan, he's gone on to make 24 appearances in Ligue 1 and helped the French side to keep 11 clean sheets.
Monaco managed to win +16% more games when Abdennour took to the field last season and was ever present force at the back since the Winter break.
He also put in impressive displays in their Champions League victory over Arsenal, managed to get himself a goal vs Zenit and put in a solid performance as Juventus snuck by via Vidal's first leg penalty.
West Ham's focus may now be elsewhere as rumors of them closing in on Juventus' Angelo Ogbonna seem to be gathering pace.
Liverpool do need defensive re-enforcements and Abdennour would seem to fit in very nicely into Liverpool's three man defense, as he also appeared at left back earlier in his career. The bigger question that would inform Rodgers decision on this signing, would be over the future of Sakho and Lovren. Both players tend to operate on the left hand side of the defense and signing the Tunisian would send a pretty clear message that their place is not secure.
If Liverpool can get him for something less than the reported £21m being asked for by Monaco, he seems to have all the raw talents required of a top center back. However Liverpool needs to recognize that the defense doesn't start and end with the back four. Lovren looked very classy when shielded by Schneiderlin / Wanyama and Abdennour enjoyed the protection of Toulalan / Kondogbia. Maybe finding a place for Lucas in the lineup or buying a quality defensive midfielder, might help out the defense just as much as a new addition would.
