Liverpool manager appeared to confirm that their defensive midfielder Lucas Leiva will remain a Liverpool player beyond the end of the transfer window.
"Lucas is our best defensive midfield player we have. There are games in which I will pay three midfield players and not always want a specific defensive one.
But when we do need that, he’s the best that we have. He came in at Arsenal and did a great job, and is very much part of what we want to do.
Of course, every player wants to play every minute of every game and you can never guarantee that as a manager.
But he is certainly very important to what we want to do, and is highly respected by myself, the coaching staff and the players."

The above stats show exactly why he's respected at Liverpool and what he brings to the team when picked.
Playing in 20 of Liverpool's 38 Premier League games last season, when he took to the pitch he lowered the average time it took for the Reds to score a goal by 19 minutes and added an extra four minutes to the average time it took them to concede.
This in turn had the effect of raising the average points from 1.3 to 1.9 when Lucas Leiva played for Liverpool.
Jamie Carragher also spoke on Sky Sports last season about his perceived importance in the Liverpool team:
Liverpool legend Terry McDermott seems to agree and had this to say on Twitter last night:
Lucas also showed he still has a vital role to play in the squad, it would be a shame to see him go if the speculation is true #Lfc

As much as Lucas is unlikely to be a starter week in, week out allowing him to simply slip away would seem a mistake by Brendan Rodgers. No Liverpool player has such a drastic affect on the win percentage of the team as the Brazilian did last season.
Although Emre Can is likely to be the long term successor, there's definitely something to be said for both of them to be utilized in difficult away games such as last night. An injury to Can would leave Liverpool without an experienced defensive midfielder and if they are to maintain their early solid defensive display, they are going to need more than one in the squad.
Liverpool take on struggling West Ham United this weekend. The Hammers have failed to win in their last 19 visits to Anfield and our unique statistical predictive algorithm is once again predicting Liverpool as strong (65%) favorites to add another victory to that list on Saturday.
Why not use that as the starting point for a winning acca this weekend? A Liverpool victory and a Man Utd loss to high flying Swansea (38% favorites) would immediately start you off nicely with a £47.90 win.
