Arsenal have opened the season in somewhat mixed fashion, failing to win at home, yet collecting maximum points on the road.
The Gunners are reasonably placed after four games of the current campaign, but how do their performances in three key areas compare to those of their major rivals?
SHOOTING – FOR
The figures are pretty alarming in this department, with Arsene Wenger’s men converting a mere 5.6% of their chances so far this term. Given that they averaged 17.6% for the entire 2014/15 Premier League campaign, then this has to be seen as a significant decline.
It is good news for Arsenal in the possession stakes, with none of the other top clubs able to match their average of 65.3% so far this term. The North London outfit may be well known for their ability to keep hold of the ball, but this still represents an impressive 8.7% rise on what they managed throughout last season.
SHOOTING – AGAINST
The Gunners find themselves in the middle of the pack when it comes to making themselves hard to score against, conceding to 11.5% of the efforts taken against them. It was a similar story in 2014/15, when the figure stood at 10.3%, so they will be hoping that Petr Cech’s arrival improves things in the long term.
Many people expected Arsenal to be the main challengers to Chelsea this season, but it is Manchester City that have exploded out of the blocks. If Wenger’s men are to stand any chance of finishing in top spot, then they must rediscover their clinical touch in front of goal.
