Chelsea have made life very difficult for themselves in the early weeks of the new campaign, collecting just four points from a possible 12.
Jose Mourinho’s men have three opportunities to improve their tally during the month of September, but what does history tell us about their upcoming games?
Chelsea have blown extremely hot and cold on recent trips to Goodison Park, winning two and losing four of their previous six Premier League matches at the venue. On a positive note, they did score six times in this fixture last season and Everton are yet to win at home this term.
Arsenal will provide the Blues with a stern test, but it should not be forgotten that Chelsea have won seven of the most recent ten top-flight meetings between the pair at Stamford Bridge. This includes five victories in the last six clashes, so the omens are good for Jose Mourinho’s men.
NEWCASTLE UNITED (A)
Somewhat surprisingly, Chelsea have a dreadful recent record at St. James’ Park, losing on each of their previous three Premier League visits to the venue. This is not a great Newcastle side by any stretch of the imagination, but they have looked a lot more organised under Steve McClaren.
Chelsea are quite capable of winning all three of these matches to catapult themselves up the table, but history tells us that away games at Everton and Newcastle represent potential banana skins.
