Liverpool are not in a bad position after four games of the current campaign, though their 3-0 home defeat at the hands of West Ham United will have come as a shock.
Interestingly, just five goals have been scored in the Reds’ matches so far this season, but where do they rank amongst their major rivals in terms of chances created and allowed?
Despite averaging just over nine attempts per game, Brendan Rodgers’ side still lag behind Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham when it comes to creating chances. They are, however, ahead of Manchester United. Liverpool had kept three clean sheets prior to the West Ham debacle, yet they have faced 36 shots this season. In real terms, the Merseyside outfit have created and given up opportunities at a very similar rate.
SHOTS ON TARGET
The Reds have managed a mere 14 shots on target in 2015/16, with none of the other leading clubs registering fewer. Having allowed 13 efforts on target against them, Rodgers’ men do at least boast a +1 differential in this particular category. When you consider that the same figure for Premier League leaders Manchester City currently stands at +23, however, it is easy to see why Liverpool are somewhat off the pace that they are setting.
Liverpool should be disappointed with the amount of shots that they are allowing, though pleased with how few of these are hitting the target. At the other end of the pitch, improving the accuracy of their shooting should definitely be a priority.
The Merseyside outfit travel to Manchester United on Saturday evening. Louis van Gaal’s men have carved out 32 opportunities this season, whilst allowing opposing teams a mere 22 efforts in total. Betfred’s Double Delight / Hat-Trick Heaven offer is available for this game:
