Everton take on Chelsea this weekend and the result may very well come down to who can win the battle of the strikers.
We’ve taken a look at both Romelu Lukaku and Diego Costa’s stats to see where they both excel.

Diego Costa storms ahead in terms of raw goals scored, managing to find the net 10 more times than the former Chelsea man, despite playing 700 minutes less of Premier League football last season.
However that’s not the only important statistic here. An area in which Lukaku is actually matching Costa is in both the number of opening goals and the number of winning goals scored.
Lukaku and Costa both managed to score the opening goal five times and scored four winners each. This means that a lot of the extra 10 goals Costa scored were simply adding gloss to already winning scorelines. Although there’s always a value to goals that put a game to bed, the much more valuable strikes are the winners and openers.
The quite stunning stat from Diego Costa is his minutes per goal ratio at just 109 minutes per strike. With most great strikers aiming for a goal every other game and Costa is smashing that ratio and this was all accomplished during his first season in the Premier League.
Although Costa has yet to break into full stride in a stuttering Chelsea team, his stats would indicate that this dry period shouldn’t last too much longer.
Everton’s Lukaku seems to be developing nicely and at almost five years younger than his Chelsea counter part, he still has a few years to reach his level. Costa didn’t enjoy a break through season until he was 24 and before that, had never netted more than 10 goals in a domestic league season.
While Costa is currently among the most deadly strikers in the Premier League, Lukaku is likely to join that club as the seasons go by.
