Manchester United return to the Champions League this evening with a tricky away trip to PSV. After announcing himself to the Old Trafford faithful with a stunning goal to put the Liverpool game to bed, we think there are some great reasons to back him to continue that form this evening.
Since March of 2015 Anthony Martial has a better goal to playing time ratio than most of the Premier League's big hitting strikers.
His form at the end of last season was simply stunning for Monaco, netting eight goals in 17 games for an average of 131 minutes on the pitch per goal scored.
Manchester City's Aguero has set the benchmark for Premier League strikers in recent seasons but Martial has matched and even bettered that, albeit in this much shorter time period. It's a glimpse into the kind of stats and performances that convinced Manchester United of their need for the young striker, even with the enormous fee attached.
His manager Louis van Gaal has been impressed with the forward, though asked for a little calm in the expectations department:
"His [Martial] impression is good. I only can say that up until now it's good. But also for him, it's the same as for Memphis, you have to give him time. And that's what I am asking also to the fans, because he can't change the market price."
Former Manchester United hit man Dwight Yorke heaped further praise on him while on Sky Sports:
"He didn't give two monkeys in terms of what you're supposed to do and just got the ball and it seems to be a natural thing just to attack the defenders, something we haven't seen for maybe 18 months at United. We've been crying out for something like that."
Martial will need some time to adjust and develop into his role in the Champions and Premier League but a debut goal against Liverpool was probably the perfect way to immediately endear himself to United fans.
With Wayne Rooney's injury, it does put a little more pressure on him to score goals than van Gaal would have planned, he looks more than capable to both cope and deliver.
Anthony Martial is likely to lead the line this evening as United take on PSV.
BetFred have an amazing offer for tonight's fixture to help with backing Martial to find the net this evening. They will double his first goal scorer odds if he find the net a second time in addition to getting the first goal and then treble it if he manages to complete his hat-trick. With nearly all bookies offering wins of around £55, this is a great way to potentially grab some much better value from your first goalscorer bets. He did exactly this against Bastia in March as he bagged a double on their way to a 3-0 win.
