Everton lining up PL international as Stones replacement

By KickOff IN Archive,General - 19:15 Dec 14th 2015

Roberto Martinez has always had an eye for young up and coming talent and it's currently being reported by both the Daily Mirror and Liverpool Echo that he's turning his attention to Arsenal and England's defensive starlet, Callum Chambers. It's no secret that a host of teams are currently chasing John Stones and although Martinez successfully rebuffed their approaches last summer, it seems only a matter of time until a move might be acceptable to both parties.

So how could Callum Chambers fit in and does he have the necessary skill set to replace someone as gifted as John Stones?

The young Gunner has not had many chances to impress this term with Bellerin and Debuchy keeping him out of the right-back position and Mertesacker, Gabriel and Koscielny keeping him from playing centrally.

However looking at the few appearances he has made in the Premier League, he seems to have done rather well. This season in the fours games he's played, Arsenal have conceded on average a goal every 360 minutes, in the 12 games he missed that average plummets to 90 minutes per goal conceded. Although the stats are across a small range, it still points to him doing something right.

At just 20 years of age he's well on his way to becoming a top level player in which ever position he occupies and the chance to play regularly in a young, strong Everton side could convince him to swap the capital for Liverpool.

THOUGHTS

Calum Chambers does give Arsenal plenty of options as a squad member. The ability to cover at right-back, centre-back and potentially in midfield make him a player valuable to a Gunners side who experience more than their fare share of injuries.

However with Carl Jenkinson's future up in the air and the possibility that Arsenal will splash the cash on a holding midfielder in January, it's certainly possible the youngster will see his options limited even further and a chance to play for a big team under a manager like Roberto Martinez could well swing things the Toffees way.
