By KickOff IN Archive,General - 19:45 Dec 24th 2015

Manchester United are going through some tough times under Louis van Gaal and an improved performance is probably would be a great late Christmas present for the Dutch manager.

Here's the team most likely to play against Stoke:

Bastian Schweinsteiger serves the final match of his ban while Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia, Marcus Rojo, Matteo Darmian and Jesse Lingard are all unavailable due to injury.

Manchester United have most injury troubles at the back and this may force van Gaal to name the same back four that appeared last week. Jones and Smalling are at least familiar with each other having started 51 games together, winning 31 (61%) of them.

In midfield Herrera could return to partner Carrick in midfield to provide a bit more of an attacking edge. The Spaniard has only managed a combined total of 64 minutes in his last four appearances for United and seems in desperate need of a full game to help him rediscover his form.

Up front Anthony Martial should once again lead the line with Wayne Rooney floating behind him. The two haven't yet managed to combine particularly well with Rooney only providing the assist for one of his seven United goals but the more settled the positions and the line up come to be, the chemistry should improve in time.
