Head-to-Head league stats: West Ham United vs Southampton

By Mark Peters IN Fixture History,General,Match Preview - 20:00 Sep 24th 2016

West Ham and Southampton both enjoyed tremendous seasons last time around, but neither side has found the going quite so easy in 2016/17. Ahead of the meeting between the two teams on Sunday afternoon, we thought we’d take a look back through the archives at the history of this fixture during the Premier League era.

WEST HAM VS SOUTHAMPTON – AT WEST HAM

Southampton will be glad to see the back of Upton Park, as their record at the venue has been pretty poor since August 1992. Ten of the Saints’ 15 league visits have ended in defeat, including three of the last four. On a positive note, however, they have found the net on six consecutive trips to this part of the world:

Traditionally, West Ham have been known as a team who are comfortable on the ball, but they have averaged just 40% possession in home matches against the South Coast outfit. It has not stopped them from putting the ball in the back of the net, mind you, with the Hammers scoring at a rate of two goals per game in this fixture.
