Wayne Rooney has made a disappointing start to the current campaign, losing his place in the Manchester United team as a result of some ineffective performances.
Despite the recent change of management at international level, the England captain is likely to be named in Gareth Southgate’s first starting XI, probably in the no.10 position.
WAYNE ROONEY VS DELE ALLI
Tottenham’s Dele Alli is likely to suffer as a result of Rooney’s involvement, either finding himself on the bench or forced to occupy a deeper role.
Based on the form of the two men since the beginning of last season, is there any possible justification for going with the Manchester United player?

Having been afforded a similar number of Premier League minutes, it is Alli who holds the edge in terms of goals scored and assists provided.
The Tottenham youngster’s advantages are slim, however, and he has been playing for a better side over the course of the last year-and-a-bit.
Given the similarities between the numbers of the two men, Southgate should base his selection around how he wants his no.10 to play.
If he wants someone to arrive late into the box, then Alli is his man, whilst he should opt for Rooney if he is looking for a link between midfield and attack.
