Head-to-Head PL stats: Liverpool vs Manchester United

Irrespective of how the two sides have been getting on, Liverpool v Manchester United has always remained the biggest clash in English football, though the presence of Jürgen Klopp and Jose Mourinho on the touchline only adds to the sense of occasion this time around.

Ahead of the latest meeting between these famous old clubs, we thought we’d take a look back at the Premier League history of this fixture at Anfield.

LIVERPOOL VS MANCHESTER UNITED – AT LIVERPOOL

Given the difference in top-flight form between these teams over the course of the last 24 seasons, it comes as no surprise to see that Manchester United have won on half of their visits to Merseyside. What is particularly striking, however, is just how few draws there have been, with all four being by a different scoreline:

Interestingly, both sides have scored 32 goals at an average of 1.33 per game, whilst ten red cards have been shown. Despite the fact that just one of these encounters has ended 0-0, it should still be pointed out that Liverpool’s 3-1 success back in March 2011 is the only one of the last 14 clashes in which either side has netted more than twice.
