West Ham United plot sensational move for proven PL striker

By Mark Peters IN General,Transfers - 20:00 Oct 14th 2016

There can be no disguising the fact that West Ham have made a truly abysmal start to the Premier League season, with the East London outfit currently finding themselves in the relegation zone.

Not only do the Hammers possess the worst defensive record in the top-flight, but players not named Michail Antonio have scored just three goals between them.

With so many issues to address at both ends of the pitch, it is difficult to know where to start, but finding a centre-forward who can score goals would definitely be helpful.

THE CURRENT CROP

Simone Zaza, Jonathan Calleri and Ashley Fletcher all arrived at West Ham during the summer, but the trio are without a goal in 19 competitive appearances between them.

It can therefore be assumed that Andy Carroll will walk straight back into the team when he eventually recovers from his knee injury, but the 27-year-old’s top-flight record is not exactly awe-inspiring:

In fact, during his Premier League career to date, the powerful striker has only managed to find the net roughly once every four games.

Given that the former Newcastle and Liverpool man is one of the best in the business in the air, playing him can also make the Hammers a bit too one-dimensional.

THE ALTERNATIVE

According to Football Whispers, Daniel Sturridge remains in contention for a move to London Stadium, particularly if he continues to struggle for playing time at Liverpool.

If the 27-year-old is to stand any chance of maintaining his place in the England starting XI ahead of the likes of Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford, then he must secure regular first-team football.

A move to West Ham would provide him with such an opportunity, as well as the chance to become a legend at a club with enormous potential:

Despite the fact that 66 of Sturridge’s 171 Premier League appearances have come from the bench, he has still scored 26 more goals than Carroll.

The England international has struck roughly once every 2.5 games during his top-flight career, so he would represent a massive upgrade on any of the options currently available to Slaven Bilic in attack.
