Unlike many of the other teams in the relegation picture, Sunderland boast a proven Premier League goalscorer in the shape of Jermain Defoe.
The former England international cannot be expected to keep the Black Cats up on his own, however, so David Moyes will be looking to use his limited funds to add more firepower to his squad in January.
According to reports in The Sun, one potential target is Stoke’s Peter Crouch, a man who has struggled for playing time at the Britannia Stadium this season.
Now aged 35, the giant centre-forward has partnered Defoe at both Portsmouth and Tottenham, whilst he could be available on loan or for a small fee:

Over the course of a three-year spell between 2008 and 2011, the duo scored 55 top-flight goals between them, with only six of these coming during their six months apart.
Both men have plenty more miles on the clock nowadays, but the little and large combination is certainly something that could work for Moyes’ men.
