Four Wins On The Bounce For Pep? Bournemouth v Manchester City Ultimate Form Guide

By timgarrett IN General,Premier League,Ultimate Form Guide - 12:30 Feb 13th 2017

After an explosive start to the season, Manchester City have often struggled to put together winning streaks this term. They head into tonight’s away fixture with Bournemouth, however, with the opportunity to record their 4th win on the bounce. That would represent their best run since September, and Pep’s men will be going all-out to get the job done.

They’re coming up against a side that is in danger of falling into a rut. Just 1 win in 9 games is poor by anyone’s standards, but given how brightly Bournemouth started the season it’s especially disappointing.

Eddie Howe’s side have made a habit of getting results against big sides at home this season, with Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal all having dropped points at the Vitality Stadium already, but can they add City to that list tonight?

Our Ultimate Form Guide (above) suggests that that’s unlikely. Across 15 key statistical areas, City come out on top in 14, and in many cases by quite some margin.

City are scoring far more regularly and reliably than Bournemouth, with an average of 2.3 goals per game to Bournemouth’s 1.4. Their attackers are getting an impressively large number of shots off on goal each match, and with a conversion rate of 21% they’re looking a formidable proposition.

At the back, Bournemouth look all at sea. 25 goals conceded in their last 10 games is way below the level Howe expects of his players, and the fact that 1 in 4 shots on their goal are finding the back of the net does not bode well.

Bournemouth’s only real hope looks like arriving in the form of City’s defensive woes. Pep’s men are conceding an average of 1 goal per game, and the 20% conversion rate against them suggests that their last line of defense is not performing well enough. If Bournemouth can pepper the City goal, the rewards will surely come.

Overall, however, Pep Guardiola looks like being the happy manager at the end of the night, with Bournemouth’s search for a resurgence set to continue.
