Spurs Set To Swoop For Spanish Superstar

By timgarrett IN General,Premier League,Transfers - 19:45 Feb 22nd 2017

Since arriving at Tottenham Hotspur in 2014, Mauricio Pochettino has slowly assembled a highly impressive squad. His young, pacey and dynamic side is a match for anybody in the Premier League on their day, and the fact that their current position of 3rd is of disappointment to many is a reflection of just how far they’ve come under the Argentine’s stewardship. There will be no resting on laurels at White Hart Lane this summer, however, as top-class targets are sought, and one in particular is getting fans excited.

Real Madrid’s Isco has long been linked with a move to North London, and with just 16 months left on his contract, Spurs are reported to be readying themselves to make a move this summer.

Isco himself fanned the flames this week by saying, “From now until the end of the season, we will make a decision. It is my future at stake”, but will his future be at White Hart Lane? And if so, what would he bring to the side?

Isco has started for Real Madrid 11 times in La Liga this year, making a further 6 appearances from the bench and playing a total of 973 minutes. His return of 5 goals and 5 assists in such a short amount of playing time is quite remarkable, meaning that he is currently directly contributing to one goal every 97.3 minutes of play, and all from midfield.

Real are currently sitting pretty on top of the La Liga table, but they have in fact struggled to impress in 4 matches for which Isco has been unavailable. Without him, they have seen their goals per game, shots per game and points per game averages drop substantially, and their only league defeat of the season came in his absence.

It remains to be seen whether Spurs can pull off the deal for a player who clearly still has so much to offer the reigning European champions, but if they can they will have a real star on their hands.
