Another Fairytale Night At The King Power? Leicester Predicted Line-up v Atlético Madrid

By timgarrett IN Champions League,General,Lineup - 12:26 Apr 18th 2017

Tonight, there will surely be no better place in the footballing world to be than the King Power Stadium. Leicester’s fairytale story reaches its highest point yet as they take on Atlético Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinal second leg, and every neutral in the land will be cheering on Craig Shakespeare’s men.

In their way stands an Atléti side who not only have genuine Champions League pedigree, having reached 2 of the last 3 finals, but who are also on a fine run of form. It’s 5 wins in their last 6 for Diego Simeone’s men, and they will be full of confidence heading into tonight’s match.

With that in mind, it’s vital that Shakespeare get his team selection right. This is the XI we expect him to go with:

Robert Huth is suspended for tonight’s game after receiving a booking in Madrid, but reports suggest he may well be replaced by a fit again Wes Morgan. The last time Leicester’s captain started alongside Kasper Schmeichel, Danny Simpson and Christian Fuchs was their 2-0 win over Sevilla in the last round of the Champions League.

Leicester look almost certain to go with a central pairing of Danny Drinkwater and Wilfred Ndidi, and the side has experienced victory in 8 out of the 13 games they have started together previously.

As was the case in Madrid 6 days ago, the majority of the Foxes’ attacking threat will come from Riyad Mahrez, Marc Albrighton, Jamie Vardy and Shinji Okazaki. This tried and tested quartet may have drawn a blank on that occasion, but in their 33 previous starts together the side averaged over 2 goals per game.

It’s undoubtedly Leicester’s biggest challenge yet and the smart money remains on Atléti to progress, but given the miracles that have occurred at the King Power over the last 18 months, don’t write them off just yet.
