Arsenal plot move for European Under-21 Championships star

Arsenal fans remain divided other whether or not Arsene Wenger is the man to lead them to future success, so the naysayers will want to see significant activity in the transfer market this summer.

Keeping hold of the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Özil will be the Gunners’ top priority, but they must look to add players of similar quality if they are to become a force in the Premier League once again.

One potential target, if reports in the Daily Express are to be believed, is Real Madrid’s promising youngster Marco Asensio, with Juventus and Liverpool also thought to be keen on securing his signature.

MARCO ASENSIO

Currently on duty with Spain at the European Under-21 Championships, the attacking midfielder/winger demonstrated his quality with a hat-trick against FYR Macedonia in his country’s first game of the tournament.

Such opportunities to shine have been few and far between at the Santiago Bernabeu this season, with the 21-year-old making a total of just 12 starts across La Liga and the Champions League:

Despite his lack of minutes, Asensio still managed to show that he can perform on the grandest of stages, scoring as a substitute against both Bayern Munich and Juventus as his club were crowned kings of Europe for a record 12th time.

When presented with the opportunity to play regularly, on loan at Espanyol in the 2015/16 campaign, the youngster did not disappoint, weighing in with four goals and ten assists in La Liga:

Although Zinedine Zidane would not want to lose somebody who he clearly rates extremely highly, Asensio is unlikely to be content with appearing from the bench for too much longer and a move abroad could therefore be on the cards.
