Tottenham Hotspur plot shock move for 25-year-old defender

Over the course of the last couple of campaigns, Tottenham have emerged as genuine contenders for the Premier League title, though perhaps a lack of squad depth has prevented them from getting over the line.

This has not been the case in the full-back positions, however, with Danny Rose, Ben Davies, Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier providing Mauricio Pochettino with good options on both sides of the pitch.

Unfortunately for Spurs, it looks increasingly likely that Walker will choose to move on this summer, leaving a vacancy in defence that will need filling.

CEDRIC SOARES

According to reports in the Daily Mirror, one potential replacement for the former Sheffield United man could well be Southampton’s Cedric Soares, though Juventus and Barcelona are also thought to be interested in securing his signature.

Currently on duty with Portugal at the Confederations Cup in Russia, the 25-year-old has taken to Premier League football like a duck to water since joining the Saints in the summer of 2015:

In 54 top-flight appearances under two different managers, the adventurous right-back has helped his team to keep an impressive 23 clean sheets.

Perhaps his numbers are not as striking as those put up by Walker in 2016/17, but the achievement of being involved in a shutout twice every five games for a mid-table side should not be underestimated:

Defensively solid, full of energy and willing to get forward whenever the opportunity arises, Soares seems like a perfect fit for Pochettino’s style of play and Southampton have proven in the past that they are willing to sell their best players if the price is right.

Speculative bullshit lifted from a disreputable rag like the Mirror. Stop cutting and pasting what every other clown is doing. Since when has Spurs ever told any newspaper their intentions especially a two bit hack masquerading as a professional responsible journalists.
