Liverpool make move for incredible defensive prospect

By Mark Peters IN General,Ligue 1,Premier League,Transfers - 19:45 Jul 5th 2017

So far this summer, Liverpool have concentrated on boosting their attacking options, bringing in Mohamed Salah from AS Roma and Dominic Solanke from Chelsea.

As exciting as that is for supporters of the Merseyside outfit, however, they are only too aware of the need to bolster a defensive unit that conceded at a rate of more than one goal per game in the Premier League last season.

Step forward Emanuel Mammana if reports in the Daily Express are to be believed, with the Reds said to have submitted a £14.9m bid for the Argentina international’s services.

EMANUEL MAMMANA

Seen as the future for his country at the heart of their defence, the 21-year-old only moved to Europe last summer, joining Lyon from River Plate.

Although his debut campaign in Ligue 1 was disrupted by a series of injuries, the ball-playing centre-back still managed to make a positive impression upon his team’s results when he did take to the pitch:

In fact, Lyon won an extra 18% of their top-flight matches when Mammana was involved, averaging an impressive two points per game along the way.

Having started out as a midfielder, it is easy to see why the youngster boasts such excellent technique, but it is his maturity, confidence and leadership qualities, plus his ability to sniff out danger, that really mark him down as someone special:

Whether or not the 21-year-old would be ready to step straight into the Liverpool starting XI, possibly in place of Dejan Lovren, is very much up for debate, but he would certainly provide the Reds with a long-term solution to their defensive problems.

very good prospect, I think Liverpool should go for a bit more experience in the back-line. As a Liverpool supporter, why is Sakho being side- lined. I would keep Sakho and buy a good central midfielder to protect my center backs.

I am sick of Liverpool being interested in someone. Unfortunately that’s as far as it goes. Why haven,t we put a bid in for Keita, is that just going to sizzle out like van dyjk. It really is disappointing. We were supposedly interested in lacazette but we didn’t,t do anything about it. Lfc seem more animated when they are selling someone.

Davison Sanchez is a much better option. He will cost 30M but he is twice the player, and still 21. Statistically, per 90 min played, Davison is also twice as good.
Liverpool had better do their homework correctly.

Same old story, lfc going to buy this and that but at the end we end up buying the left over so nothing is changed.
