So far this summer, Liverpool have concentrated on boosting their attacking options, bringing in Mohamed Salah from AS Roma and Dominic Solanke from Chelsea.
As exciting as that is for supporters of the Merseyside outfit, however, they are only too aware of the need to bolster a defensive unit that conceded at a rate of more than one goal per game in the Premier League last season.
Step forward Emanuel Mammana if reports in the Daily Express are to be believed, with the Reds said to have submitted a £14.9m bid for the Argentina international’s services.
Seen as the future for his country at the heart of their defence, the 21-year-old only moved to Europe last summer, joining Lyon from River Plate.
Although his debut campaign in Ligue 1 was disrupted by a series of injuries, the ball-playing centre-back still managed to make a positive impression upon his team’s results when he did take to the pitch:

|HEIGHT: 6FT 0IN||WEIGHT: 11ST 0LB|

In fact, Lyon won an extra 18% of their top-flight matches when Mammana was involved, averaging an impressive two points per game along the way.
Having started out as a midfielder, it is easy to see why the youngster boasts such excellent technique, but it is his maturity, confidence and leadership qualities, plus his ability to sniff out danger, that really mark him down as someone special:
|21Y 4M||AGE||28Y 0M|
|6FT 0IN||HEIGHT||6FT 2IN|
|11ST 0LB||WEIGHT||13ST 0LB|

Whether or not the 21-year-old would be ready to step straight into the Liverpool starting XI, possibly in place of Dejan Lovren, is very much up for debate, but he would certainly provide the Reds with a long-term solution to their defensive problems.
