Tottenham Hotspur plot move for brilliant Bundesliga full-back

Tottenham appear to have done a great bit of business in selling Kyle Walker to Manchester City for an initial fee of £45m, particularly with Kieran Trippier waiting in the wings.

The former Burnley right-back cannot be expected to carry the load single-handedly on that flank, however, so it makes sense that the North London outfit would be looking to provide him with some competition.

According to Football Whispers, one player on Spurs’ transfer radar is Mitchell Weiser, the scorer of the winning goal as Germany defeated Spain in the final of this summer’s European Under-21 Championship.

Often likened to Dani Alves in terms of his playing style, the Hertha Berlin defender spent time at Bayern Munich earlier in his career, learning from the legendary Philipp Lahm.

Despite being restricted to a mere 16 Bundesliga appearances for the German giants, the 23-year-old’s three-season stay at the club was not entirely wasted, giving him with the chance to train with top professionals on a daily basis:

Since making the switch to the German capital, Weiser has helped a team that narrowly avoided relegation in 2014/15 to qualify for the Europa League in consecutive campaigns.

Not only that, but the speed merchant has been able to demonstrate both sides of his game, playing a part in 17 clean sheets, as well as scoring four goals in his 44 top-flight appearances:

Neither Weiser nor Trippier played as much as they would have liked last season, largely as a result of injury in the case of the Hertha Berlin defender, but they both made the sort of attacking contribution from full-back that suggests they could be interchangeable.
