Liverpool plot surprise move for enigmatic forward

Having performed so incredibly against the leading clubs last season, winning seven and drawing five of their 12 matches versus top-seven teams, Liverpool have every reason to feel confident heading into the new campaign.

Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke have already been added to the Reds’ attacking options, joining Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho, Adam Lallana, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi as possible selections for Jürgen Klopp.

It seems that the German wants one more choice at his disposal, however, if reports in the Daily Star are to be believed, with the Anfield outfit thought to be competing with Chelsea for the signing of Max Kruse.

MAX KRUSE

Valued at around £16m by his current employers, Werder Bremen, the 29-year-old has a penchant for switching clubs, turning out for four different sides in the last five seasons.

This instability has not prevented the Germany international from scoring goals or providing assists, mind you, with his consistency there for all to see:

A veteran of over 150 Bundesliga games, the talented forward has been directly involved in more than 80 top-flight goals, whilst his ability to operate equally effectively as a main striker or as a no.10 makes him a valuable commodity.

A propensity for getting into trouble off the pitch would make signing Kruse a significant risk, though it is clear from his impact last term that the 29-year-old can make a positive contribution for his team:

Werder Bremen lost a staggering 64% of the Bundesliga matches that the German missed through injury in 2016/17, collecting 0.7 fewer points per game than they managed when he was involved.
