Far from resting on their laurels, defending champions Chelsea have been extremely busy in the transfer market so far this summer, strengthening in virtually all areas of the team.
Aged 24, 22 and 24 respectively, Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Antonio Rudiger could serve the West London outfit for years to come, though they will all be expected to make an impact straight away.
According to reports in the Daily Star, however, the Blues are also targeting an even younger talent in the shape of 18-year-old Malang Sarr.
The centre-back only made his debut for Nice at the beginning of last season, but he soon established himself as a key performer in the team that secured an unexpected third-place finish behind AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain.
Starting 25 Ligue 1 games for the French club, the young defender played a part in ten clean sheets, with opponents taking an average of nearly 100 minutes to find the net against his side:
|18Y 6M||AGE||24Y 4M|
|6FT 0IN||HEIGHT||6FT 3IN|
|11ST 6LB||WEIGHT||13ST 6LB|
|FL | NIC |||| RMA | SA|
|06/16 - 06/17||06/16 - 06/17|
These numbers were very similar to those put up by Rudiger for AS Roma in Serie A last term, despite the fact that Sarr is at a much earlier stage of his development.
Not only that, but Nice also boasted a better defensive record when Sarr was involved than they did when he was missing, albeit conceding at a rate of just 0.1 fewer goals per game:
|POS: DEF||AGE: 18Y 6M|
|HEIGHT: 6FT 0IN||WEIGHT: 11ST 6LB|
|FL | NIC | 16/17||16/17 16/17 | NIC | FL|
Said to be the subject of interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona, as well as Chelsea, the 18-year-old looks set for a massive future, though his reported £36m release clause could be the biggest stumbling block to any potential move.
