Chelsea plot dramatic late move for La Liga prodigy

Chelsea fans coming away from the Burnley defeat could have been forgiven for thinking that their club might struggle to match the successes of last season, but back-to-back wins over Tottenham and Everton will have put any such thoughts to bed.

Despite the turnaround, it is clear that Antonio Conte still wants to add to his squad before the close of the transfer window, with most of the Italian’s targets currently playing their football in the Premier League.

According to reports in the Daily Star, however, Real Madrid’s 22-year-old holding midfielder Marcos Llorente is also a player who is firmly in the Blues’ thinking.

MARCOS LLORENTE

The fourth member of his family to turn out for the European giants, the Spanish Under-21 international has so far been restricted to just three top-flight substitute appearances for the Bernabeu Stadium outfit.

He is not completely without experience of football at the highest level, mind you, having featured in 32 La Liga matches in the colours of Alaves during a season-long loan in 2016/17:

It would be fair to say that the young man made the most of his opportunity, helping the unfancied club to reach the final of the Copa del Rey, as well as shining in La Liga.

So important was the defensive protection offered by the 22-year-old to his side’s cause that they suffered hugely without him, conceding an extra 1.3 goals per game in the league when he was missing:

An exquisite user of the ball who is also able to make timely interceptions, prizing Llorente away from Real Madrid would represent a significant transfer coup for the West London outfit.

there will be no more Chelsea quality signings, if any, as I predicted 2 weeks ago. the major effort is get costa out for a profit, so the future looks bright, (if you’re not conte who is practically left to fight barehanded; “serves him right for mishandling Diego’s situation”, personally I don’t think he is to blame). in the mean time 14 – 15 players sold, only 3 signed, all loans sorted out, (surely a profit made) and an award is due to Chelsea’s board for outstanding charitable activity: letting united have lukaku and matic, Liverpool – salah, city – de bruine, uve – sandro, arsenal – chech …brilliant business deals, solving many a competitor’s personnel problems. let’s see how pulls it off now.
