Klopp To Opt For The Ox: Liverpool’s Predicted XI to Face Manchester United

By timgarrett IN General,Lineup,Premier League - 09:30 Oct 14th 2017

As Liverpool’s assorted internationals returned to Melwood this week, there was no time for complacency. Ahead of them at 12:30 on Saturday lies arguably their biggest game of the season, as fierce rivals Manchester United arrive at Anfield looking to extend a 6 match unbeaten run against the Reds in the Premier League. With bragging rights at stake, only 3 points will be enough.

The international break served up frustration for Liverpool, with Sadio Mane sidelined for up to six weeks due to a hamstring problem picked up in Senegal’s 2-0 win over Cape Verde, but Jürgen Klopp must find a winning solution with or without his highly influential winger. This is the XI we expect him to go with:

With an average age of just 25 years and 8 months it’s a Liverpool side with youth on its side, although the potential for naivety at the back should be a worry. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alberto Moreno, Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip have started just 2 games together previously, and neither has ended in a clean sheet.

Liverpool’s central 3 of Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldium and Emre Can will offer far more reliability, with each now an established player at international level. The last time this trio started together Liverpool were victorious in a thrilling clash with Leicester back in September.

In the absence of the aforementioned Mane, recent signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain looks set to be given an attacking berth. He has previously found the net against United in an Arsenal shirt, and the Anfield faithful will be desperate for another here.

Overall, it’s a strong Liverpool side that is full of goals. With home advantage on their side, there’s every chance of them breaking their poor run of form against their great rivals. Available at 33/1 for new Betfair customers to claim the victory, they might just be worth backing.
