BOURNEMOUTH v CHELSEA

Like Leicester before them, Chelsea are not the same team without N’Golo Kante bossing the midfield engine room, so the Blues will be looking to grind out a result at Bournemouth in his continued absence through injury. Despite securing an encouraging victory at Stoke last time out, Eddie Howe’s men remain firmly in the bottom three, though the visit of the defending Premier League champions is followed by six eminently winnable fixtures. Even taking into account their surprise defeat at Crystal Palace in their previous away game, Antonio Conte’s charges have still been pretty sensational on the road in recent times, recording 15 victories from 20 top-flight trips. The Cherries, by way of contrast, have blown somewhat hot and cold in front of their own supporters of late, winning five, drawing four and losing six of their last 15 matches, so it comes as no surprise to see our Kickoff predictive algorithm giving the Blues a 50% chance of success on the South Coast. If the home side are to get a result, then 1-1 (12% chance) would appear to represent their best hope, though a 0-1 scoreline (12% chance) is just as likely in a contest that promises to serve up under 2.5 goals (53% chance). Michy Batshuayi (18% chance) was the hero against Watford last time out, but the Belgian international can expect to play second fiddle to Alvaro Morata (21% chance) on the team sheet once again, as well as in the first scorer stakes.

Chelsea return to Premier League action this weekend having been fortunate to avoid defeat in their last outing. The profligate finishing of Watford’s Richarlison let them off the hook on that occasion, but will this week’s opponents be quite so accommodating?

Bournemouth have struggled to push on once again this season, and currently occupy 19th place in the Premier League. They are much more solid on home turf, however, and the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham have struggled to claim all 3 points here in recent visits.

Antonio Conte’s future at Chelsea has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks, and he will have to get his team selection right here if he’s to avoid more of the same. This is the XI we expect him to go with:

At the back, the reliable trio of César Azpilicueta, David Luiz and Gary Cahill will continue ahead of Thibaut Courtois. The 4 have started together 39 times previously, and Chelsea have a 72% win rate in those matches.

Chelsea’s midfield will have a more experimental feel to it, with Davide Zappacosta, Cesc Fàbregas, Tiémoué Bakayoko and Marcos Alonso having only started together once previously. That outing was a 3-3 Champions League draw with Roma, but a much better result will be required here.

Antonio Conte can now rely upon his first choice front line once more, with all of his premier attacking talents now fit. Álvaro Morata has scored 7 goals in his first 11 Chelsea outings, and he will be keen to extend that excellent opening on Saturday evening.

Overall it’s an incredibly strong Chelsea side, and one that looks more than capable of gaining the required result on the south coast. Available to back at 20/1 for new Betfair customers, there can surely be no better bet this weekend.
