Prior to the international break, Liverpool had responded to an indifferent run of results in fine style. Thumping victories against Huddersfield and West Ham put Jürgen Klopp’s side right back on track, and they will be keen to maintain that momentum as they return to Premier League action.
Southampton are the visitors, and they arrive at Anfield with just 1 win in their last 6 outings. Recent history suggests they’ll be no pushovers, however, with each of the last 2 Premier League stagings of this ending in stalemate, and Southampton having knocked Liverpool out of the EFL Cup on away turf last term.
All of which suggests that Klopp simply must get his team selection right here, and this is the XI we expect him to go with:

|TOTAL PREMIER LEAGUE EXPERIENCE|
Joe Gomez was highly impressive in making his England debut in midweek, and he will continue in Liverpool’s back 4. He has only started alongside Ragnar Klavan, Joël Matip and Alberto Moreno twice before, but Liverpool have won both of those matches.
Speculation continues to surround the future of Philippe Coutinho, but for the time being at least he remains a Liverpool player. He has started just 5 Premier League games so far this season, but already has 2 goals and an assist to his name.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain bagged his first Liverpool goal against West Ham last time out, and he will be keen to add to his tally as he continues to settle into his new surroundings. Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah look set to join him in attack, in what looks an extremely dangerous front line.
Overall, it’s a Liverpool side that looks highly capable of overcoming a struggling Southampton side, and with odds of 20/1 available for the home win for new Betfair customers, they’re well worth backing.
