A 2-1 victory in the Champions League against CSKA Moscow was enough to secure Man United's passage as group winners into the last-16 in the Champions League.
But while United's European campaign is in full-flight Jose Mourinho's side still have significant ground to make-up on league leaders Man City, with an eight-point gap between the sides.
Despite sitting second in the table United are well off the pace of their 'noisy neighbours' and today's game is a massive opportunity to reduce that deficit to five and bring the title race to life again.
Alternately, a victory for City would create a massive 11-point lead after just 16 games.

If United are to win, they'll have to do so without the services of French midfielder Paul Pogba.
He is suspended for the next three League games after being sent off against Arsenal following a dangerous challenge on Hector Bellerin.
Ander Herrera will likely be given the nod in his absence, but Marouine Fellaini could also play a role since being passed fit for the game.
Mourinho can also select Phil Jones and Zlatan Ibrahimovic should he chose, with both passed fit again.
Jesse Lingard is likely to continue his run in the side, following some impressive displays, at the expense of compatriot Marcus Rashford.
Michael Carrick remains unavailable to Mourinho with a long-term calf injury.
