Reasons To Believe Real Madrid’s Resurgence Can Continue Against Sevilla

By timgarrett IN La Liga,Match Preview - 18:26 Dec 8th 2017

Real Madrid may have breezed into the last 16 of the Champions League this week, but the start to their La Liga campaign has been anything but serene. The reigning Spanish and European champions have claimed just 8 wins from their first 14 matches, and an immediate and sustained return to form will be required if they’re to close the 8 point gap between themselves and leaders Barcelona.

They face high-flying Sevilla this weekend, and manager Zinedine Zidane will be fully aware of the threat they pose. 2 of the last 4 meetings between the clubs have gone Sevilla’s way, and their pedigree has been clearly demonstrated by their own progress in the Champions League. A genuine threat then, but one the stats suggest they can cope with.

Real’s run of 4 consecutive home wins represents the longest to be found in the ‘Form Streaks’ tab of KickOff’s new Acca Smacker (below) this weekend, while almost no other side can match their spectacular record of 47 goals in their last 20 La Liga outings. The results may not have been as strong as previous years, but the attacking threat is still there.

There’s even more reason for cheer amongst Real Madrid fans when looking at the ‘Form Stats’ tab of the Acca Smacker. Using 18 key data points, 9 attacking and 9 defensive, from the past 10 games for each side, KickOff compares the two sides and, in this case, gives Real a commanding 13-2 victory. Such stats can be used to turn average punters into professional bettors, and can definitely be taken as a strong indication of their ability to claim a 5th positive result on the spin tomorrow.

The KickOff predictive algorithm gives Real a 61% chance of claiming victory, and in truth even that appears slightly generous to Sevilla when looking at the stats. This is a home fixture that Zidane’s men can and should win, and with odds of 7/20 available on exactly that, there’s money to be won here.
