Celtic Set To Swoop For Trusted Rodgers Recruit

Having assembled a vastly talented squad during his time with Celtic, manager Brendan Rodgers must now spend much of his time fending off interest from other clubs in his players. Stars such as Moussa Dembélé and Kieran Tierney have been linked with moves away but, as yet, the Northern Irishman has remained resolute.

When he has a spare moment, it’s reported that Rodgers is targeting new recruits of his own. Ambitious in his pursuit of improved European performances and continued domestic domination, however, he’s only interested in player upon which he can depend.

Nathan Dyer is believed to be one such player, with the English winger having thrived playing under Rodgers for a number of years while both were with Swansea City.

Dyer is believed to be seeking a fresh challenge after suffering the ignominy of Premier League relegation last season with the Swans, and reports suggest that Celtic are interested in making a move. At 32-years-old, however, what would they be getting if they chose to cement their interest?

Dyer appeared in 24 of Swansea’s 38 Premier League outings last term, and it’s incredibly impressive to see the impact he was able to make on a struggling side.

Scoring goals was the club’s serious issue last year and, while the 1.0 per game average they achieved with Dyer in the side was far from prolific, it’s world-class when compared to an average of just 0.3 without him.

At Dyer’s age, there will always be questions about his ability to get up and down the pitch, but the fact that Swansea’s average goals against per game also dropped with him in the side suggests he still has it within him to do the defensive dirty work too.

For Rodgers, ultimately, it’s all about results and the fact that Swansea’s win ratio sky-rocketed from just 7% without Dyer to 29% with him may, at the end of the day, be all the evidence he needs.

The English Premier League is an incredibly difficult division to have an impact in but, even at 32, Dyer was able to do so last season. It’s clear that he still has plenty to offer and previous experience suggests Rodgers knows just how to get it out of him. As summer transfers go, this one looks like a no-brainer for The Bhoys.
