Mourinho Lines Up 29-Goal Striker For Manchester United

One thing that was very apparent about Manchester United last season was just how much they relied upon Romelu Lukaku for goals, with the Belgian international’s tally of 16 making him the only member of their squad to reach double figures in the Premier League.

Down the road at Manchester City, Sergio Aguero (21), Raheem Sterling (18) Gabriel Jesus (13) and Leroy Sane (10) all netted ten times or more in the top-flight, so adding some more firepower to his ranks will be key for Jose Mourinho this summer.

According to recent media reports, one man who interests the Red Devils is Lazio striker Ciro Immobile, with the 28-year-old serving up some truly spectacular numbers since moving to the Italian capital back in 2016:

In fact, so prolific has the former Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla centre-forward been that he has outscored Gonzalo Higuain by 52 goals to 40 from roughly the same amount of playing time, despite turning out for a team with less quality than the Argentinian’s Juventus side.

Not only that, but the Italian international has also helped himself to more winning goals and more assists than the ex-Real Madrid striker, taking 32 minutes fewer between his successful strikes on average and dividing his efforts evenly between home and away games.

Looking simply at the 2017/18 campaign, it would be fair to say that Immobile’s numbers in Serie A were vastly superior to those put up by Lukaku in the Premier League, with the 28-year-old nearly doubling the Belgian’s goal tally:

Given their differing styles, the duo could potentially form a potent attacking partnership, though Mourinho’s insistence on operating with just one central striker is likely to mean that the Lazio man would have to play second fiddle to the club’s current no.9.
