Leeds United Set To Make Their Move For Proven Goal Machine

Leeds are clearly leaving no stone unturned in their search to find a successor to Paul Heckingbottom, with promotion-specialist Steve Bruce now joining the highly-respected Marcelo Bielsa in being linked with a switch to Elland Road.

Whoever ends up taking charge of the Yorkshire giants, improving the playing squad will be a major priority if they are to stand any chance of competing for a place in the Premier League, and bringing in individuals with Championship experience can only help.

Czech Republic international Matej Vydra certainly fits the bill on that front, having spent five of the previous six seasons competing in the second tier of English football for Watford, Reading and his current employers Derby.

It would be fair to say that the 26-year-old has been somewhat hit and miss at this level, scoring 16 times or more in the three campaigns in which he has been part of a top-six side and struggling for goals in the other two:

His overall record remains a strong one, however, with the mobile centre-forward finding the net roughly once every two matches, whilst his numbers are strikingly similar to those put up by former Leeds striker Chris Wood during the same period.

Abel Hernandez is another man to have been linked with a switch to Elland Road and the prospect of the physically imposing Uruguayan being partnered with the lively Czech in attack has to be considered an exciting one:

All the indications are that Derby could be willing to sell Vydra in order to meet Financial Fair Play regulations, and bringing him to this part of West Yorkshire would represent a real signal of intent ahead of the new campaign.
