Arsenal & Tottenham Hotspur Lock Horns Over Emerging Midfield Maestro

Rivalries in North London are nothing new to the footballing world but, with Tottenham Hotspur having secured their position as the capital’s highest placed club for the first time in the Premier League era last season, tensions are at an all-time high.

With new managers and new stadiums, both Arsenal and Spurs are set for a transitional campaign next time out, but that has done little to dampen ambitions.

New recruits are to be brought in at both clubs this summer with a view to pushing them even further up the table, and it’s believed that the pair are set to lock horns in a head-to-head battle for the signature of one Morgan Sanson.

The 23-year-old Olympique de Marseille man shone in Ligue 1 this season, and it’s reported that his performances have done enough to convince both clubs that he could sit alongside their current galaxy of stars.

Christian Eriksen has been a stand-out star for Spurs for a number of years but, while versatile enough to play deeper too, it’s his attacking central midfield role that Sanson would ideally wish to fill at Spurs. When looking at his numbers (above), it doesn’t feel impossible.

While Sanson would undoubtedly be an addition alongside Eriksen rather than a replacement, it’s notable that his minute per goal ratio was far superior last season. He’s highly productive from the middle of the park and, on current form, could certainly bring extra competition to the Spurs squad.

Aaron Ramsey is currently Arsenal’s most Sanson-esque player, and comparing the productivity of the pair last season it’s also clear to see how the Frenchman could fit in should he move to The Emirates.

The Gunners view Ramsey as a key player and are reportedly desperate to tie him down to a new, long-term contract, but it’s notable that Sanson has already managed to record very similar numbers despite being almost 4 years younger.

Highly rated across Europe, there can be no doubt than Sanson is a genuine talent. At 23-years-old he is only going to improve, and he has already shown that he has the ability to offer similar levels of output to both Arsenal and Spurs’ current high-flyers.

Which part of North London Sanson ultimately ends up in is yet to be seen, but what we can be sure of is that his next employers will be getting one hell of a player.
