Manchester United To Move For World Cup Wonderkid

José Mourinho has never been a man afraid to splash the cash, and widespread reports in today’s press suggest that the Manchester United manager is desperate to secure at least one more transfer target before the World Cup kicks off on Thursday.

Defensive-minded recruits have, thus far, been the order of the day, with the Fred and Diogo Dalot arriving at Old Trafford, but United’s shortcomings last season were not only at the back.

The side has lacked a creative edge in midfield too often during Mourinho’s tenure, and it’s believed that they are now chasing a creative powerhouse to add to their ranks in the middle of the park, namely Sampdoria’s Karol Linetty.

Regularly compared to Andres Iniesta in his native Poland despite being just 23-years-old, there can be no doubt than Linetty is something of a prodigious talent, but does he have what it takes to deliver at the very highest level?

Linetty missed just 9 of Sampdoria’s 38 Serie A matches last season, and the side’s struggles without him were clear for all to see.

A precise and incisive passer of the ball, Linetty’s distribution has become key to how Samp start their attacks. With this in mind, it’s hardly surprising that their average goals per game dropped by 37.5% without him.

If United are to challenge their cross-city rivals Manchester City for the Premier League title then what they need, quite simply, is results. Linetty’s presence on the pitch lead to a 26% rise in win percentage for Sampdoria last season, and even half that impact at Old Trafford could make all the difference.

There is a quiet confidence surrounding the Poland squad ahead of the World Cup, and Linetty presence is absolutely key to that sense of optimism. If he stars as many expect his price could skyrocket, so United would be wise to try and get a deal for this wonderful player over the line as quickly as possible.
