Arsenal Make Their Move For Genuine World Cup Legend

Unai Emery has certainly been handed a baptism of fire when it comes to the opening fixtures of the 2018/19 Premier League season, with a home game against Manchester City followed by a trip to Chelsea.

The Spaniard’s new-look side will therefore have to hit the ground running, so it is important that any signings are well integrated into the team during pre-season, thus hastening the need to bring them in as soon as possible.

According to the latest media reports, one man who is interesting the Gunners, as well as Everton, West Ham, Marseille and Valencia, is Borussia Dortmund’s Mario Götze, a player who grabbed the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup Final.

After bursting onto the scene as a highly-talented teenager, the 26-year-old has endured some far tougher times in recent seasons, managing a mere six goals and eight assists for Bayern Munich and his current employers across the previous three Bundesliga campaigns:

To put things in context, the oft-criticised Mesut Özil has served up 18 goals and 35 assists in the Premier League during the same period, though Götze has been hampered by a metabolic illness that can leave him fatigued.

Having featured in most of his side’s top-flight matches during the second half of the 2017/18 campaign, however, it is clear that the diminutive playmaker now has a handle on his condition, and he could potentially be available for no more than £22m:

A lack of Champions League football means that Arsenal will find it difficult to attract world stars at the top of their game, so it is surely worth taking a gamble on a 26-year-old who was at that level when working in tandem with Marco Reus back in 2012/13.
