Celtic Target Proven Champions League Performer

There can be no doubt that Celtic have well and truly conquered Scotland since Brendan Rodgers took over in 2016 and, as a result, it’s now Europe that the Northern Irishman chiefly has his eye on as the new campaign rapidly approaches.

Improved performances in the Champions League will not be easy to come by, however, and big signings will be needed if Celtic are to become a real force to be reckoned with once more. Fortunately, it seems like one may be just around the corner.

Feyenoord forward Nicolai Jørgensen is reportedly desperate to leave the club after falling out with manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst, and Rodgers is poised to offer him a perfect escape route.

As a Danish international with 34 caps, there can be no doubt that Jørgensen has pedigree. It’s his performances in last season’s Champions League, however, that chiefly caught the eye:

Feyenoord were drawn in a nightmare group with Shakhtar Donetsk, Napoli and Manchester City, yet they performed admirably in the 4 games for which Jørgensen was available.

The 27-year-old scored twice himself, while his goal and assist in a 2-1 victory over Napoli will live long in the minds of Feyenoord’s faithful following.

A strong, multifaceted forward with a huge amount still to offer, there will doubtlessly be plenty of suitors for the former Bayer Leverkusen and FC Copenhagen man. The modern Celtic is an increasingly enticing proposition for players, however, and Rodgers stands a fantastic chance of getting his man.
