Leeds United On The Brink Of Securing Potential Star Forward

Marcelo Bielsa is reported to be training his new players hard, with the extra work done now serving as excellent preparation for the high-intensity pressing game that the Argentinian intends to employ over the course of a 46-match Championship season.

The 62-year-old has quickly identified the core members of his new-look side, but activity has been somewhat lacking on the transfer front so far, with only talented midfielder Lewis Baker arriving on loan from Chelsea.

That could all be about to change if the latest media reports are to be believed, however, with the Elland Road outfit said to be favourites to complete the loan signing of West Ham striker Jordan Hugill ahead of Queens Park Rangers.

The 26-year-old has been afforded precious little opportunity to shine since completing a £10m move to the London Stadium back in January, but he proved during his time at Preston just what a valuable asset he can be at Championship level:

Finding the net roughly once every three matches during his time at Deepdale, the target man’s numbers were not as impressive as those put up by Chris Wood in a Leeds shirt during the same period, though they were more than respectable nonetheless.

Truth be told, Hugill was actually outperformed by Pierre-Michel Lasogga at second-tier level in 2017/18, scoring eight goals to the German’s ten, but big men such as Fernando Llorente and Andre-Pierre Gignac have both excelled in the centre-forward role under Bielsa:

Although supporters may be sceptical about the benefits of bringing the 26-year-old to Elland Road, a loan deal could represent a smart bit of business given the former Athletic Bilbao and Marseille boss’ gift for extracting every drop of ability out of the players that he coaches.
