Leeds began the new Championship campaign in impressive style on Sunday afternoon, brushing aside title-favourites Stoke 3-1 at Elland Road courtesy of a scintillating display of high intensity, attacking football.
The players had clearly bought into Marcelo Bielsa’s way of doing things, pressing the opposition at every opportunity, and hopes have now been raised that the club can mount a genuine challenge for promotion this season.
When you consider that Barry Douglas was the only summer signing to start for the Yorkshire outfit, then the result seems even more outstanding, and media reports are now suggesting that the squad could soon be strengthened by the arrival of George Saville.
Like both the defender who was brought in from Wolves and Patrick Bamford, a £10m purchase from Middlesbrough, the 25-year-old impressed in the Championship last season, helping himself to ten goals from midfield for Millwall:

To put things in context, Kalvin Phillips netted seven times in the second tier for Leeds in 2017/18, so bringing the box-to-box midfielder to Elland Road would provide Bielsa’s charges with even more of a goal threat from the middle of the park.
In addition to his quality on the ball and willingness to take shots on, Saville would also bring with him plenty of experience at this level, having clocked up close to 100 Championship appearances in his career to date:
Also thought to interest both Aston Villa and Sheffield United, the Lions will be desperate to keep hold of their talented Northern Ireland international, though their chances of doing so are starting to look increasingly slim.
