The Guaranteed Fans’ Favourite Heading To Celtic Park

By timgarrett IN Scottish Premiership,Transfers - 12:30 Aug 8th 2018

While those south of the border rush around ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has the luxury of a few more weeks to get deals done.

The Northern Irish tactician is in no mood to wait around, however, with Champions League, Scottish Premiership and Scottish League Cup campaigns all set to be underway before the close of the window.

A vast number of names have been linked with moves to Celtic Park in recent weeks, but few will have caught the attention of the club’s faithful followers more keenly than that of Emilio Izaguirre.

The former fans’ favourite departed last year to join Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Fayha on a 2-year deal but appears to have walked away 12 months early in protest of the lack of freedom granted to his wife in the country.

A bold move, and one that will delight many as he now looks set the make a remarkable return to Celtic. It’s believed he will chiefly be employed as cover for Kieran Tierney but, when required, there can be no doubt that he’ll deliver.

The 2014/15 season saw Izaguirre play something of a bit-part for Celtic, yet the team benefitted massively from his contributions in the 14 matches he played a part in.

His 2 goals and 4 assists were hugely welcome, but his contribution to a 71% win percentage was what really made the difference as The Bhoys romped towards the Scottish title.

At 32-years-old Izaguirre is no spring chicken, but his arrival will undoubtedly boost morale around the club. A top player with a top attitude and all involved will be delighted to see him back in green and white hoops as soon as possible.
