Arsenal Set To Secure Stunning Late Deal For World Cup Winner

Although the fixtures computer has not been particularly kind to them, Arsenal and their supporters head into the new season with a real sense of optimism following Unai Emery’s arrival at the North London club.

Working in conjunction with Sven Mislintat and Raul Sanllehi, the former Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain boss has done some excellent transfer business so far this summer, but the Gunners could yet be saving the best deal until last.

According to the latest media reports, the Premier League giants are lining up a stunning late move for Ousmane Dembele, with the winger who played a part in France’s recent World Cup triumph set to arrive at the Emirates Stadium on a season-long loan.

Given that the 21-year-old moved to Barcelona for an initial fee of £96.8m just 12 months ago, potentially rising to £135.5m based on certain clauses being met, bringing him to North London at a cost of only £9m, albeit temporarily, would represent a significant transfer coup.

Truth be told, the Spanish giants are unlikely to want to sell such a precocious talent next summer for the £80m fee that has been talked about, but a loan switch for a player who struggled during his first season at Camp Nou makes perfect sense:

In reality, Dembele didn’t actually do that badly in La Liga, making a direct contribution to nine goals in 17 appearances, yet more was expected from a youngster who had excelled both at Rennes in 2015/16 and at Borussia Dortmund in 2016/17:

During his time in Germany, the winger struck up a real understanding with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and joining forces with the Gabonese international once again would surely aid his development, particularly now that Barcelona have signed Malcom.
