Manchester United Set To Secure Stunning £125m Double Signing

By timgarrett IN Premier League,Transfers - 12:10 Aug 9th 2018

This could be a huge day for both Manchester United and their manager, with the Red Devils in desperate need of strengthening their squad if they are to stand any chance of mounting a serious title challenge in 2018/19.

Bringing in Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant is simply not going to get the job done, particularly when contrasted against the sort of players that their rivals have been spending big money on, so expect some fireworks at Old Trafford today.

According to the latest media reports, Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld could both be Manchester United players by the end of the day, with the Premier League giants set to spend £75m on the Leicester star and a further £50m on the Tottenham man.

Having played hardball all summer, the arrival of centre-backs Caglar Soyuncu and Filip Benkovic at the King Power Stadium is set to soften the Foxes’ stance, whilst Spurs are now ready to accept a massive fee for a defender who is currently running down his contract.

Since moving to the Premier League, firstly with Southampton and then with Tottenham, Alderweireld has simply oozed class, forcing opposing teams to average an incredible 106 minutes between scoring goals against his sides:

Over at Leicester, meanwhile, Maguire booked his place in England’s World Cup squad by featuring in every single minute of the Foxes’ 2017/18 top-flight campaign, doing enough in those games to walk away with both the ‘Players’ Player of the Season’ and ‘Player of the Season’ awards at the East Midlands club:

In addition to being excellent defenders, both men are also extremely accomplished footballers, regularly bringing the ball out from the back and spraying it around, so pairing them at the heart of Manchester United’s defence could make a real difference to the Red Devils’ prospects.
