Paris Saint-Germain Plot Stunning Swoop For Tottenham Hotspur Star

By timgarrett IN Ligue 1,Premier League,Transfers - 09:00 Aug 12th 2018

Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur "achieved their objective" and did a "great job" by keeping their best player in this summer’s transfer window but, after acquiring no new players at all, that has done little to placate the club’s fans.

The Tottenham Supporters' Trust wants "a full and credible explanation of what has happened", while radio phone-ins have been abuzz with apoplectic supporters calling for heads to roll.

All a little melodramatic, for sure, but their frustrations are easy to understand.

Spurs finished 3rd in last season’s Premier League but each of their main rivals has strengthened significantly since then. Money has been spent and the prospect of Pochettino’s side simply being left behind now feels like a very real one.

The worrying news, then, is that things could yet get worse. With the European transfer window still open, leading lights could yet be tempted away and left-back Danny Rose, in particular, looks like he could be on the move.

Paris Saint-Germain are interested, and a deal looks likely.

Admittedly Rose is not necessarily the key player he once was, playing in just 10 of Spurs’ 38 Premier League fixtures last season, but the stats (above) suggest that he’s still a valuable asset.

The England international’s attacking potency is what makes him such an intriguing prospect, and it’s unsurprising to observe that Spurs’ average goals scored per game jumped when he was in the team.

The most important, and most inescapable fact, fact remains that Spurs win more often when they have Rose on the pitch. A 13% jump is significant and hints at a player that should not be let go lightly.

Rose is still a top player and, as such, it’s absolutely no surprise that PSG are interested. After the damp squib that was the club’s summer transfer window, losing Rose after the English window has closed would feel like a real kick in the teeth for the fans.

What is your evidence that “a deal looks likely”?

All I’ve heard is Poch saying that everyone now stays until at least January, presumably because we have no ability to get a replacement in. Rose is also homegrown and we are already short in this regard re the Champions League squad, so why would we leave ourselves even shorter.

I know which one sounds more plausible between whether he stays now or goes so jog on or come back with something that actually makes sense!
