Championship stats and tips

Thursday 1st January

Blackburn v Wrexham - Over / Under 2.5 Goals - under

Low scoring fixtures aren't always tedious affairs, but fans of Blackburn Rovers have had too many chances to test that theory this term. 14 of their side's encounters in the Championship have finished with under 2.5 goals so far - the most in the competition. Will P. Parkinson and his Wrexham side be capable of adding some goalmouth action into this fixture on Thursday? Or will it be more of the same?

Bristol C v Portsmouth - Over / Under 0.5 Goals - under

Supporters travelling to Ashton Gate this Thursday to watch Bristol City and Portsmouth might already be concerned about a tedious afternoon, and with good reason. G. Struber's men have played their part in 2 nil-nils this term, more than any team in the Championship. Will anyone score? Bet against it at top odds of 11.00.

Charlton v Coventry - Half Time / Full Time - away+away

N. Jones won't be looking forward to facing Coventry City in the Championship on Thursday. F. Lampard's side have led at HT and gone on to claim victory at fulltime more frequently than any other side in the the Championship this season - 9 times in total. That record suggests it could well be a long afternoon for Charlton Athletic, and that backing Coventry City in the HT FT market could be a smart move at odds of 3.00.

Derby v M'Boro - Both Teams To Score & Result - draw

Pride Park Stadium plays host as Derby County and Middlesbrough meet on Thursday afternoon, in what could prove to be a real crowd-pleaser. J. Eustace's side have the highest number of BTTS + draws of any team in the league - 8 in 24 outings. An extension of that record is available at 4.50.

Hull v Stoke - Over / Under 2.5 Goals - over

If you fancy a thriller on Thursday afternoon, then the clash between Hull City and Stoke City could be one to watch. S. Jakirović's team lead the Championship in most matches with over 2.5 goals so far this season. 16 of their Championship games have already gone that way. With form like that, surely only a defensive masterclass from M. Robins's men could ruin the spectacle.

Ipswich v Oxford Utd - Half Time / Full Time - draw+draw

It might not be an honour they're all that enamoured with, but Ipswich Town currently lead all opponents in the Championship when it comes to fixtures drawn at both the break and the final whistle this season, with their tally now at 6 in 24 matches. They will put that unwanted consistency on the line against Oxford United at Portman Road on Thursday, in a clash that could see yet another tie.

Preston v Sheff Wed - Half Time / Full Time - home+home

Sheffield Wednesday will be hoping not to add to the 10 times they have already been losing at both HT and FT this term when they square off against Preston North End on Thursday. H. Pedersen's side already lead the rest of the Championship in that department, and won't want to make it any worse. Opposing boss P. Heckingbottom may not feel the same way, however.

QPR v Norwich - Both Teams To Score & Result -

If you like backing goals and choosing a winner, then the upcoming game between Norwich City and Queens Park Rangers could be worth a look. L. Manning's side have lost 8 games this term in which both clubs have scored. That's a record in the Championship.

Southampton v Millwall - Both Teams To Score - yes

Fans at St. Mary's Stadium will be banking on goals galore on Thursday, and they're right to, if Southampton's recent record is to be continued. Both teams have found the net in 20 of their 24 Championship matches this season, the largest number in the competition.

Sunday 4th January

Birmingham v Coventry - Half Time / Full Time - away+away

C. Davies won't be looking forward to the prospect of playing Coventry City in the Championship on Sunday. F. Lampard's side have been winning at halftime and gone on to win at final whistle in more games than any other club in the the Championship this season - 9 times in total. That record suggests it may be a tough lunch time for Birmingham City, and that backing Coventry City in the HT FT market could be a smart move at odds of 4.00.

QPR v Sheff Wed - Double Chance - away win or draw

Queens Park Rangers have consistently struggled against Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship in recent years. The two teams have played on 5 occasions since 2023, and Sheffield Wednesday have remained unbeaten in them all. Sunday's game at Loftus Road Stadium could be a tricky one for J. Stéphan & co.

Blackburn v Charlton - Over / Under 2.5 Goals - under

Low scoring games aren't always tedious affairs, but fans of Blackburn Rovers have had plenty of opportunity to test that theory this term. 14 of their side's fixtures in the Championship have finished with under 2.5 goals so far - the most in the competition. Will N. Jones and his Charlton Athletic side be able to inject spice into this match on Sunday? Or will it be same old same old?

Derby v Wrexham - Both Teams To Score & Result - draw

Pride Park Stadium is the venue as Derby County and Wrexham meet on Sunday afternoon, in what could prove to be a proper ding-dong battle. J. Eustace's side have the most BTTS + draws of any club in the league - 8 in 24 outings. An extension of that record is available at 4.75.

Hull v Watford - Double Chance - away win or draw

Hull City simply have not been able to find a way past Watford in the Championship in recent years. The two clubs have met on 5 occasions since 2023, and Watford have remained unbeaten in them all. Sunday's game at KCOM Stadium could be another hard one for S. Jakirović & co.

M'Boro v Southampton - Both Teams To Score - yes

Fans at Riverside Stadium may be fully expecting plenty goalmouth action on Sunday, and with good reason if Southampton's recent record is anything to go by. Both teams have scored in 20 of their 24 Championship fixtures this season, the largest number in the competition.

Norwich v Stoke - Double Chance - home win or draw

Stoke City have found something of a bogey team in Norwich City in the Championship in recent years. The two clubs have clashed on 10 occasions since 2019, and Norwich City have been unbeaten in them all. Sunday's game at Carrow Road could be a really difficult one for M. Robins & co.

Portsmouth v Ipswich - Double Chance - away win or draw

Portsmouth have consistently struggled against Ipswich Town in the league in recent years. The two clubs have clashed on 5 occasions since 2021, and Ipswich Town have gone unbeaten in them all. Sunday's game at Fratton Park could be a really difficult one for J. Mousinho & co.

Monday 5th January

Leicester v West Brom - Double Chance - home win or draw

West Bromwich Albion have found something of a bogey team in Leicester City in the league in recent years. The two teams have played on 8 occasions since 2017, and Leicester City have gone unbeaten in them all. Monday's game at King Power Stadium could be a really difficult one for R. Mason & co.

Tuesday 3rd February

Blackburn v Sheff Wed - Over / Under 2.5 Goals - over

Who doesn't love a goal-fest? And there's every chance we'll see one when Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday clash on Saturday afternoon in the Championship. V. Ismaël and H. Pedersen's XIs have shown they know their way to goal, and our smart members believe they will again at Ewood Park. 6 of them are tipping the fixture to deliver at least 3 goals before full time. 1.80 is the top price in our betslip for this suggestion, and it will have plenty of people getting excited.
