Over/Under 0.5 Goals Tips & Predictions
Over/under 0.5 goals is a popular betting market with punters across a variety of football leagues and matches.
It’s easy enough to get your head around. Essentially, you bet on no goals to be scored, or more.
It’s not as difficult to predict as some others, however, there are still attractive odds to be found - particularly if you place an acca bet.

Over / Under 0.5 Goals Tips and Predictions - Friday 13th to Monday 16th March
Akhmet Grozny v Dynamo Moscow – Over 0.5 Goals
None of the last 12 top-flight matches involving Dynamo Moscow have finished scoreless, with a total of 28 goals being netted across these contests. As for Akhmet Grozny, they have been involved in just a couple of 0-0 draws over the course of their previous 20 games at the top table of Russian football, meaning that over 0.5 goals are expected in this encounter.
Nancy v Ajaccio – Over 0.5 Goals
Over the course of their last 20 home matches in the second tier, Nancy have been involved in no fewer than 17 contests containing one goal or more, including six in a row of late. Not only that, but 12 of the 14 away matches played by promotion-chasing Ajaccio in Ligue 2 this season have also been of the over 0.5 goals variety, so the deadlock should be broken.
Maritimo v Vitória de Setúbal – Over 0.5 Goals
When you consider that there has been just one goalless draw in the previous 18 Maritimo home matches in the Primeira Liga, it is easy to see why we are not expecting another one here. What’s more, nine of the last ten Vitória de Setúbal away games at this level have also seen the deadlock being broken at some point, thus providing further evidence against a 0-0.
Montpellier v Marseille – Over 0.5 Goals
Montpellier conceded five goals in a very disappointing display at Rennes last time out, thus stretching their run of top-flight matches without a goalless draw to 14. Marseille have not been big on 0-0 draws either, with the 1993 Champions League winners managing just two in 20 games as they close in on securing a place back at the top table of European football.
Over / Under 0.5 Goals Tips and Predictions - Friday 6th to Monday 9th March
Niort v Nancy – Over 0.5 Goals
At least one goal has been netted in each of the last 16 Niort matches in Ligue 2, so achieving consistency on this particular front has not proven too difficult for the relegation-threatened outfit. What’s more, the deadlock has also been broken in 12 of the most recent 13 Nancy games at this level, meaning that it would come as a surprise were this contest to end 0-0.
Numancia v Racing Santander – Over 0.5 Goals
Over the course of their last 20 matches in the second tier of Spanish football, rock-bottom Racing Santander have been involved in just a single goalless draw. It has been an identical story as far as Numancia are concerned recently, with the net bulging at least once in 19 of their previous 20 Segunda Division fixtures, including in 12 games on the bounce of late.
Sporting Gijon v Las Palmas – Over 0.5 Goals
In a run stretching back to late in the 2018/19 campaign, Sporting Gijon have now played 17 consecutive second-tier home games in which the deadlock has been broken at some point. Given that 12 of the most recent 13 Las Palmas away matches at this level have also produced one goal or more, it would come as a shock were both keepers to pitch a shutout.
Chievo Verona v Cosenza – Over 0.5 Goals
Since drawing 0-0 at Crotone in their opening game of the current campaign, Cosenza have been involved in 13 consecutive away matches of the over 0.5 goals variety in Serie B. Interestingly, Chievo have featured 13 times on their own patch in the second tier this season, and the team that were relegated last term are yet to be involved in a goalless draw.
Over / Under 0.5 Goals Tips and Predictions - Friday 28th February to Monday 2nd March
Chateauroux v Le Havre – Over 0.5 Goals
Chateauroux have been the epitome of consistency when it comes to their involvement in second-tier matches containing at least a single goal, with 21 in a row subscribing to this particular scoring model. Not only that, but 16 of the last 17 Le Havre away games at this level have also served up a minimum of one successful strike, so expect more of the same.
Leganes v Alaves – Over 0.5 Goals
Alaves don’t do 0-0 draws on their top-flight travels, with the 2001 UEFA Cup finalists making 35 trips since they were last involved in a goalless encounter. Leganes were actually held to such a result by Real Betis in their most recent home fixture, though that snapped a sequence of 13 games on the bounce at the venue that had produced one goal or more.
Boavista v Gil Vicente – Over 0.5 Goals
Although Boavista don’t tend to be involved in too many thrillers, it remains the case that the deadlock has been broken at some point in each of their previous 15 top-flight fixtures. Given that 15 of the last 16 games involving Gil Vicente at this elite level of Portuguese football have produced one goal or more, it would come as a surprise were this contest to finish 0-0.
Espanyol v Atletico Madrid – Over 0.5 Goals
When Espanyol take to the field in front of their own fans, at least one goal tends to be netted, with this being the case in each of the Barcelona-based side’s last 34 La Liga home games. What’s more, Atletico Madrid may not be known for playing swashbuckling football, but the deadlock has been broken at some point in 15 of their previous 17 top-flight matches.
Over / Under 0.5 Goals Tips and Predictions - Friday 21st to Monday 24th February
Albacete v Numancia – Over 0.5 Goals
If recent results are anything to go by, then drawing 0-0 is not on Albacete’s agenda at the moment, as they have now been involved in 18 consecutive second-tier matches containing at
least a single goal. Given that 19 of the previous 20 Segunda Division fixtures involving Numancia have followed the same pattern, more of the same is expected when the sides meet.
Lugo v Real Oviedo – Over 0.5 Goals
Since drawing 0-0 at Albacete on this very date exactly one year ago, Real Oviedo have made 21 trips in the second tier of Spanish football, with every single one of these games producing at least a single goal. As for relegation-threatened Lugo, 16 of their most recent 17 matches at this level, including ten on the bounce of late, have also been of the over 0.5 goals variety.
St. Etienne v Reims – Over 0.5 Goals
Reims have now played 15 games since they were last involved in a goalless draw on their top-flight travels, winning six, drawing three and losing six of these matches. As for struggling St. Etienne, none of their previous 11 Ligue 1 fixtures have ended 0-0, with a total of 36 goals being netted across these contests, most of which have been scored against them.
Getafe v Sevilla – Over 0.5 Goals
Somewhat incredibly, Sevilla have now played 51 times in La Liga since they were last involved in a goalless draw, with that stalemate coming at Real Sociedad all the way back in November 2018. Although Getafe cannot possibly compete with these numbers, it remains the case that just one of their previous 20 top-flight games has failed to produce a goal.
How Does Over/Under 0.5 Goals Betting Work?
If you back under 0.5 goals, you’re betting that no goals will be scored. If you back over 0.5 goals, you’re betting that more than one will be scored over the game. There can be any number of goals, just as long as there’s one, your bet will win.
Therefore, the score at full time determines whether or not you’re successful. It’s also referred to as ‘a goal in the game’ by punters.
This is very similar to the other goal markets, including 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5.
Why Is It Popular?
The simplicity of this market is partly what makes it so popular with bettors. Compared with half time/full time bets, for example, it’s much more straightforward.
While you might not be able to find the odds offered by the correct score market, for example, this isn’t to say you can’t win some attractive returns. The key is that you don’t have to spend much in order for your bet to win. Particularly if placed as part of an acca bet, this market can be an extremely profitable one.
It can be found in a variety of leagues and matches, offered by most of the best betting sites out there.
Some alternatives include:
- Over/under 1.5 goals
- Over/under 2.5 goals
- Over/under 3.5 goals
- Over/under 4.5 goals
- Over/under 5.5 goals
These markets all follow the same basic principals, with different odds to be found in each one. Bear in mind that potential returns also vary bookmaker to bookmaker.
