First Goalscorer

Whether you have a hunch about an unlikely scorer coming up big in a crunch match or want to back the in form striker to net again, the first goalscorer market is an exciting option for football betting, with loads of options and flexibility. It’s simple to play, just back the player you think will score the first goal. If they do, you win. If anyone else scores first (except own goals) or no one scores in the match, the bet will lose.

With 22 players on the pitch, and possibly as many as 10 substitutes into the bargain, it’s clearly a difficult market to win in, and to do so you’ll need to find the best first goalscorer tips and predictions. That’s where we come in.

First Goalscorer tips and predictions

One of KickOff’s great strength is our tipster community, and they produce daily tips for all major European competitions. Check out the latest first goal scorer tips and predictions below.

Sunday 24th October – Hellas Verona v Lazio – Ciro Immobile

Since the beginning of last season, Ciro Immobile has featured in 20 away games at the top table of Italian football, with the Lazio striker finding the net on no fewer than ten occasions. What’s more, four of these efforts have fired the capital club into a 1-0 lead, with these goals coming against Crotone, Spezia, Benevento and Genoa; that is, teams in the bottom half.

Saturday 23rd October – Sassuolo v Venezia – Domenico Berardi

In his last two appearances on home soil, against Salernitana and Inter Milan, Domenico Berardi has fired Sassuolo into a 1-0 lead, and the Italian international remains the main man for his club. Not only that, but the 27-year-old also boasts eight goals in his last ten Serie A matches at the Mapei Stadium, so he will be relishing the prospect of taking on Venezia.

Saturday 23rd October – Chelsea v Norwich City – Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku is a player who continues to divide opinion, with many believing him to be a world-class centre-forward and others insisting that he fails to deliver in the big games. Whichever side of the fence you sit on, what cannot be denied is the fact that he netted 24 times in Serie A last season, with nine of these goals serving to break the deadlock.

Tuesday 19th October – Internazionale v Sheriff Tiraspol – Lautaro Martinez

Irrespective of the competition, Lautaro Martinez has endured little difficulty finding the net in Inter Milan home matches of late, with the Argentinian international helping himself to 11 goals in 17 appearances. What’s more, the talented 24-year-old has opened the scoring within the first ten minutes of recent games against Bologna and Atalanta at the San Siro.

What are You Betting On?

With this area of football betting, it’s as simple as it sounds. You bet on which player will score the first goal of the match. If they score first, your bet wins. The final score or result of the match has no bearing on whether your bet wins or loses.

What are First Goalscorer Predictions Based On?

These predictions are based on our algorithm which factors in all the best data to produce the best possible tips. We look at a player’s form, how many goals they’ve scored for their side previously, their current form and their past form against the team they’re playing.

What Should First Goalscorer Odds Look At?

What do the best betting tips look at?

So, the best odds and free football tips are calculated by looking at:

● Current form
● Past match data and statistics
● Goals from past matches
● Player statistics

First Goalscorer Rules

What are the general rules most bookmakers follow?

● The rule on own goals is that they do not count. The bet rolls on to the next goal
● Unless otherwise specified, the best usually runs for the full 90 minutes
● If no goals are scored, all bets usually lose
● A team’s top scorer will usually have shorter odds
● Defenders usually have higher odds
● Despite some short odds, this market is generally a generous one

Do These Rules Apply Every Time?

Some bookmakers may offer alternative versions.

This might include bets which include extra time (although this is unusual). You could also bet on the anytime goalscorer market where a player can score at any time and the bet will be successful. Alternatively you could bet on the last goalscorer market where a player must score the last goal of the match for your bet to win.

How Profitable is this Type of Bet?

First goalscorer bets tend to be particularly popular, especially for matches featuring consistent goal scorers e.g. Harry Kane.

While betting on these goal machines can be tempting, as ever with profitable football betting what you’re also looking for is value in a bet.

A player might have a much better record of scoring goals at home rather than away – if they are playing at home in the next match then their odds might be longer than they should and this could be a good bet.

Similarly, you might make a defender who doesn’t score that many goals usually your first goalscorer tip. You might do this if the defender has a history of scoring a lot of goals from set pieces and is about to play against a team who concede a lot of goals from set pieces.

What is an Each Way Goalscorer Bet?

These types of bets are where:

● Half your stake is place on the standard first goalscorer bet
● The other half is where the rest of your bet is placed on the same player scoring the second or third goal

If no goals are scored, your entire bet loses.

Anytime Goalscorer Tips

If you think a player is pretty likely to score but not necessarily be the first goalscorer, what should you do? Place an anytime scorer bet.

With the anytime goalscorer market, you have more chance of winning – as your player has more chances to score. However, this can make your bet less profitable. Betting on one of the top goalscorers to hit the back of the net isn’t exactly predicting the impossible.
