Over / Under 5.5 Goals Tips and Predictions
Sunday 14th March – Stuttgart v Hoffenheim – Under 5.5 Goals
Hoffenheim have made 29 Bundesliga trips since the beginning of last season, with every single one of these encounters delivering a maximum of five goals. Irrespective of which division they have been playing in, under 5.5 goals has tended to be the order of the day in Stuttgart home matches as well, with 18 of the previous 20 subscribing to this scoring model.
Saturday 13th March – Werder Bremen v Bayern Munich – Under 5.5 Goals
Bayern Munich may be capable of putting most teams to the sword, yet they are currently on a run of 14 away matches on the bounce in the Bundesliga in which the net has bulged five times or fewer. What’s more, including the playoffs, 19 of the last 20 Werder Bremen home games at this level have followed the same pattern, including a 1-0 loss to these opponents.
Friday 12th March – Lazio v Crotone – Under 5.5 Goals
Lazio are on a roll when it comes to their involvement in top-flight home games containing five goals or fewer, with this being the case 20 times in a row since a 5-1 demolition of SPAL in February 2020. Before visiting Atalanta, meanwhile, 17 of the last 20 Crotone away matches in the league had followed the same pattern, so expect under 5.5 goals again here.
Saturday 6th March – Osasuna v Barcelona – Under 5.5 Goals
Before making the trip to Sevilla, none of the 30 top-flight away games played by Barcelona since the beginning of last season had produced more than five goals, which is somewhat surprising given the attacking talent in their ranks. For their part, Osasuna are currently on a run of 22 such matches on their own patch themselves at the top table of Spanish football.
Thursday 4th March – Parma v Internazionale – Under 5.5 Goals
Since beating Genoa 5-1 in October 2019, every single one of the 26 Serie A home games played by Parma has produced under 5.5 goals, including a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Inter Milan. Speaking of the title-chasing visitors, no fewer than 19 of their last 20 away matches at this level have also served up five goals or fewer, so more of the same is on the cards.
Wednesday 3rd March – Brest v Dijon – Under 5.5 Goals
Over the course of their last 20 away matches in Ligue 1, Dijon have featured in just a single contest containing more than five goals, so achieving consistency has not proven too difficult on this front. The numbers are identical for Brest on their own patch during the same period, meaning that it would come as a surprise to see anything other than five goals or fewer.
Tuesday 2nd March – Juventus v Spezia – Under 5.5 Goals
Aside from a thrilling 4-3 defeat at Roma, none of the last 20 Spezia away games in the league has produced more than five goals, irrespective of which division they have been playing their football in. Not only that, but Juventus are currently on a run of 29 top-flight home matches on the bounce of the under 5.5 goals variety, so expect that to continue.
Sunday 28th February – Sheffield United v Liverpool – Under 5.5 Goals
Since drawing 3-3 with Manchester United back in November 2019, Sheffield United have played 24 home games at the top table of English football, with every single one of these encounters delivering under 5.5 goals. This has also been the case in 18 of the most recent 20 Liverpool away matches in the Premier League, so something similar is expected here.
Saturday 27th February – Bayern Munich v Koln – Under 5.5 Goals
Under 5.5 goals has been the order of the day in 17 of the last 18 Koln away matches in the Bundesliga, including in 11 games in a row of late, with the one exception being a 6-1 thumping at Werder Bremen on the final day of last season. What’s more, prior to visiting Eintracht Frankfurt, 15 of the last 18 Bayern Munich games at this level had followed suit.
Wednesday 24th February – Barcelona v Elche – Under 5.5 Goals
Including the playoffs, newly-promoted Elche have now made 24 league trips since they were last involved in a contest containing more than five goals, so they have been the epitome of consistency on this particular front. For their part, prior to playing host to Cadiz, Barcelona had featured in 18 home games out of 20 at this elite level containing under 5.5 goals.
Monday 22nd February – Juventus v Crotone – Under 5.5 Goals
You have to go back to a 4-3 success against Napoli in August 2019 to find the last time that a Juventus home game in Serie A contained over 5.5 goals, with the Italian champions having featured 28 times on their own patch since then. As for Crotone, 17 of their most recent 20 away matches in the league have also delivered no more than five successful strikes.
Sunday 21st February – Barcelona v Cadiz – Under 5.5 Goals
Before facing Alaves, Barcelona had featured in 14 consecutive top-flight fixtures containing five goals or fewer, which has to be seen as a bit of a surprise in light of the attacking talent that they possess. What’s more, 19 of the last 20 Cadiz matches at this level have also been of the under 5.5 goals variety, so the newly-promoted outfit have not taken too many beatings.
Over Under Goals Explained
This betting market is fairly straightforward.
If you back over 5.5 goals, you’re betting that over 6 will be scored over the course of 90 minutes. If you back under, you think less than 6 will be scored.
Terms and Conditions
It’s irrelevant of the final number of goal scores, just whether the total goals is more or less than 6. For example, your bet wins if the number is more than 6 and you backed over.
All goals scored by both sides are included.
Also, it’s important to note that over/under goals bets run for the full 90 minutes. This doesn’t include extra time or penalties.
Sometimes, bookmakers won’t offer this market at all, so it’s essential to find the best betting site for you.
Why Is It Popular?
Over/under goals markets are one of the most popular ways punters bet on a football match. Depending on the match itself, there are some attractive odds to be found.
It’s a good market if one team is the clear favourite to win, or if you want to give the underdog a chance.
Compared to markets such as half time/full time bets, it’s much easier to predict. However, this isn’t to say you can’t make good returns. Particularly if you place this bet as part of an acca, there are some attractive winnings to be found here.
These bets are offered by a variety of bookies, including William Hill. They also can be found across many different football matches, including the Premier League.
Example
Let’s break it down – here’s an example of the type of bets that would win.
Over
Over 5.5 goals means 6 or more being scored in 90 minutes.
So, an example of a score that would make your bet successful would be 3-3, 5-1, 4-2, 6-0.
Under
An example of an under 5.5 goals would be 4-1, 0-0, 3-2, 5-0.
