Over / Under 5.5 Goals Tips and Predictions - Friday 13th to Monday 16th March
RB Leipzig v Freiburg – Under 5.5 Goals
Over the course of their last 20 top-flight home games, RB Leipzig have been involved in no fewer than 19 encounters in which under 5.5 goals have been netted. These figures have been identical for Freiburg on their Bundesliga travels of late, so it would come as a major surprise were the two teams suddenly to conjure up more than five goals between them in this clash.
Borussia Dortmund v Schalke – Under 5.5 Goals
Under 5.5 goals has been the order of the day in 14 consecutive Schalke matches at the top table of German football, and their meeting with Borussia Dortmund back in October ended goalless. Although the team in yellow are capable of scoring goals for fun, it is noticeable that they have kept an impressive four clean sheets in their previous six Bundesliga games.
Manchester City v Burnley – Under 5.5 Goals
Since losing 4-2 at home to Chelsea in October, Burnley have featured in 19 consecutive Premier League matches in which under 5.5 goals have been netted. This is perhaps not surprising given the Clarets’ defensive solidity, though the fact that ten Manchester City home games on the bounce at this level have followed suit is more of an eyebrow-raiser.
Paris Saint-Germain v Nice – Under 5.5 Goals
You have to go back to a 5-2 win at Guingamp almost two years ago to the day to find the last time that Nice were involved in a Ligue 1 fixture containing more than five goals, with 75 matches having passed since then. What’s more, none of the team from the French Riviera’s most recent 35 meetings with Paris Saint-Germain have produced over 5.5 goals.
Over / Under 5.5 Goals Tips and Predictions - Friday 6th to Monday 9th March
Besiktas v Ankaragucu – Under 5.5 Goals
If ever a contest was destined to deliver under 5.5 goals, then this has to be the one, with both teams on long runs of Süper Lig fixtures in which this has been the case. No more than five goals have now been netted in 31 consecutive games involving Besiktas, as well as in 34 matches on the bounce involving Ankaragucu, whilst the sides drew 0-0 back in October.
Hamburg v Jahn Regensburg – Under 5.5 Goals
Since hammering promotion rivals Stuttgart 6-2 back in October, Hamburg have featured 13 times in the second tier of German football, with none of these encounters producing more than five goals. Given that 18 of the previous 20 matches involving Jahn Regensburg at this level have also been of the under 5.5 goals variety, more of the same is expected here.
Standard Liege v St. Truiden – Under 5.5 Goals
Standard Liege have now played the equivalent of an entire Premier League season since they were last involved in a contest containing over 5.5 goals, with that 4-3 success against Waasland-Beveren taking place 38 games ago. What’s more, 12 of the most recent 13 St. Truiden away matches at this level have also delivered no more than five successful strikes.
Feyenoord v Willem II – Under 5.5 Goals
Under 5.5 goals has been the order of the day in recent Feyenoord home matches in the Eredivisie, with 18 of their previous 19 encounters, including seven in a row of late, subscribing to this particular scoring model. Not only that, but ten of the 12 top-flight away games played by Willem II this season have also delivered no more than five goals.
Over / Under 5.5 Goals Tips and Predictions - Friday 28th February to Monday 2nd March
Mainz v Paderborn – Under 5.5 Goals
Mainz have played 11 home games in the Bundesliga so far this season, with every single one of these encounters delivering under 5.5 goals, and this includes matches against both Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich. As for newly-promoted Paderborn, it is noticeable that just one of their last 20 away fixtures in the league has served up more than five goals.
Borussia Dortmund v Freiburg – Under 5.5 Goals
Borussia Dortmund have dominated their recent top-flight meetings with Freiburg, winning 14 and drawing three of 17 encounters, yet none of the previous 11 clashes have delivered more than five goals. Not only that, but 19 of the visitors’ last 20 games at this elite level of German football have also been of the under 5.5 goals variety, including ten in a row of late.
Ajax v AZ Alkmaar – Under 5.5 Goals
Under 5.5 goals have been served up in all 11 of the Eredivisie away games played by AZ Alkmaar during the current campaign, including in convincing wins at Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven. What’s more, just one of the previous 13 Ajax home matches at this level has produced more than five goals, so any deviation from that script would come as a shock.
Over / Under 5.5 Goals Tips and Predictions - Friday 21st to Monday 24th February
Barcelona v Eibar – Under 5.5 Goals
Since losing 6-1 in this fixture all the way back in September 2017, Eibar have made 47 trips in La Liga, all of which have produced no more than five successful strikes. Barcelona are likely to have half-an-eye on Tuesday’s Champions League visit to Napoli, and the Catalan giants’ previous nine top-flight fixtures have all been of the under 5.5 goals variety anyway.
Feyenoord v Fortuna Sittard – Under 5.5 Goals
Over the course of their last 11 Eredivisie fixtures, Fortuna Sittard have not been involved in a single encounter containing more than five goals, so achieving consistency in this department has not proven too challenging. Given that 17 of the most recent 18 Feyenoord home games at this level have followed the same pattern, under 5.5 goals are expected here.
AS Roma v Lecce – Under 5.5 Goals
Since losing 4-2 to Lazio in this very stadium, Lecce have been involved in 12 consecutive matches containing under 5.5 goals at the top table of Italian football. As for Roma, none of the capital club’s previous ten Serie A home games has produced more than five goals, so it would come as a surprise were that sequence to be brought to a halt in this encounter.
Porto v Portimonense – Under 5.5 Goals
Given their status as one of the biggest clubs in Portuguese football, it is surprising to see that none of Porto’s most recent 28 home games in the league has served up more than five goals. As for Portimonense, they have featured 23 times at this level since they were last involved in a contest containing over 5.5 goals, so this sequence is likely to be extended in this clash.
Over Under Goals Explained
This betting market is fairly straightforward.
If you back over 5.5 goals, you’re betting that over 6 will be scored over the course of 90 minutes. If you back under, you think less than 6 will be scored.
Terms and Conditions
It’s irrelevant of the final number of goal scores, just whether the total goals is more or less than 6. For example, your bet wins if the number is more than 6 and you backed over.
All goals scored by both sides are included.
Also, it’s important to note that over/under goals bets run for the full 90 minutes. This doesn’t include extra time or penalties.
Sometimes, bookmakers won’t offer this market at all, so it’s essential to find the best betting site for you.
Why Is It Popular?
Over/under goals markets are one of the most popular ways punters bet on a football match. Depending on the match itself, there are some attractive odds to be found.
It’s a good market if one team is the clear favourite to win, or if you want to give the underdog a chance.
Compared to markets such as half time/full time bets, it’s much easier to predict. However, this isn’t to say you can’t make good returns. Particularly if you place this bet as part of an acca, there are some attractive winnings to be found here.
These bets are offered by a variety of bookies, including William Hill. They also can be found across many different football matches, including the Premier League.
Let’s break it down - here’s an example of the type of bets that would win.
Over 5.5 goals means 6 or more being scored in 90 minutes.
So, an example of a score that would make your bet successful would be 3-3, 5-1, 4-2, 6-0.
An example of an under 5.5 goals would be 4-1, 0-0, 3-2, 5-0.
Looking for similar markets? Some alternatives include:
- Over/under 0.5 goals
- Over/under 1.5 goals
- Over/under 2.5 goals
- Over/under 3.5 goals
- Over/under 4.5 goals
These all follow the same pattern; the final score at 90 minutes determines whether or not your bet has been successful.
