Team to Score First Tips and Predictions
Sunday 14th March – Torino v Internazionale – Internazionale to score first
Before visiting Parma, Inter Milan had grabbed a 1-0 lead in 12 of their previous 16 away matches in Serie A, with Antonio Conte’s charges going on to win nine and draw three of these encounters. As for Torino, they have netted first in just two of their last nine home games at the top table of Italian football, which doesn’t bode well for their chances here.
Saturday 13th March – Wolfsburg v Schalke – Wolfsburg to score first
Having conceded the opening goal in 14 of their most recent 17 away matches in the Bundesliga, it would be fair to say that Schalke have grown accustomed to making life difficult for themselves on the road. Ahead of their trip to Hoffenheim, meanwhile, Wolfsburg had grabbed a 1-0 lead in nine of their previous 12 top-flight fixtures.
Friday 12th March – Augsburg v Borussia Monchengladbach – Borussia Monchengladbach to score first
Borussia Monchengladbach have opened the scoring in 13 of their most recent 19 away matches in the Bundesliga, including in a 3-2 success on this ground last season. The boot has been firmly on the other foot as far as Augsburg are concerned on their own patch recently, as they have fallen 1-0 behind in no fewer than 13 of their previous 20 top-flight fixtures.
Monday 8th March – Trabzonspor v Alanyaspor – Trabzonspor to score first
Alanyaspor are the owners of a dreadful recent record when it comes to conceding first on their top-flight travels, doing so in eight of their previous nine games, with the one exception being a goalless draw at Hatayspor. Trabzonspor appear well placed to take advantage of this weakness, having grabbed a 1-0 lead four times in five Süper Lig home matches of late.
Saturday 6th March – Freiburg v RB Leipzig – RB Leipzig to score first
RB Leipzig are on a roll when it comes to opening the scoring on their top-flight travels, doing so 13 times in 17 trips, including in seven games on the bounce of late. It had been a different story as far as Freiburg were concerned before they visited Bayer Leverkusen, as they had conceded the first goal in five of their most recent seven Bundesliga fixtures.
Thursday 4th March – Parma v Internazionale – Internazionale to score first
Over the course of their last 20 away games in Serie A, Inter Milan have grabbed a 1-0 lead on no fewer than 13 occasions, so Antonio Conte’s charges have grown accustomed to striking first. The same cannot be said for Parma on their own patch, however, as the strugglers have opened the scoring just once in ten attempts, conceding first six times.
Wednesday 3rd March – Bordeaux v Paris Saint-Germain – Paris Saint-Germain to score first
Prior to visiting Dijon, Paris Saint-Germain had grabbed a 1-0 lead in six of their previous eight matches at the top table of French football, eventually turning all of these advantages into maximum points. Ahead of entertaining Metz, meanwhile, Bordeaux had conceded first in four of their last eight home games in Ligue 1, all of which ended in the pain of defeat.
Tuesday 2nd March – Lazio v Torino – Lazio to score first
Lazio have been opening the scoring for fun in Serie A home games of late, doing so five times in six attempts, and Simone Inzaghi’s charges have gone on to win every single one of these contests. In advance of their meeting with Sassuolo, meanwhile, Torino had only managed to establish a 1-0 lead in one of their previous eight matches at this elite level.
Sunday 28th February – Napoli v Benevento – Napoli to score first
Napoli have opened the scoring in four consecutive home games in Serie A, as well as in 13 of their last 20 top-flight fixtures at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, so they certainly know how to give themselves the best chance of victory. Newly-promoted Benevento, on the other hand, have fallen 1-0 behind in nine of their most recent 15 away matches in the league.
Saturday 27th February – Hellas Verona v Juventus – Juventus to score first
Recent history suggests that Juventus are pretty adept at striking first in Serie A away games, with the Italian giants doing so in 14 of their last 19 matches, including in a shock 2-1 defeat on this ground last season. The picture has not been quite so rosy from a Verona perspective, however, as, prior to facing Genoa, they had fallen 1-0 behind five times on the bounce.
Wednesday 24th February – Borussia Monchengladbach v Manchester City – Manchester City to score first
Opening the scoring has been Manchester City’s modus operandi lately, as, prior to visiting Everton and Arsenal, Pep Guardiola’s charges had established a 1-0 lead in 18 of their last 20 competitive matches. Before facing Mainz, meanwhile, Borussia Monchengladbach had conceded first in four of their most recent seven home fixtures, which doesn’t bode well.
Monday 22nd February – Lyngby v Kobenhavn – Kobenhavn to score first
Lyngby have a wretched recent record when it comes to conceding first in top-flight fixtures, doing so 14 times in 20 matches; one of which was a 4-2 defeat at Kobenhavn. The boot has been firmly on the other foot as far as the Danish giants are concerned, as they have netted the opening goal in 13 of their last 18 Superliga games, so a clear pattern has been set.
