Team to Score First Tips and Predictions - Friday 13th to Monday 16th March
Arminia Bielefeld v Osnabruck - Arminia Bielefeld to score first
Aside from a 0-0 draw at Hannover, Osnabruck have conceded the opening goal in every single one of their last 11 away fixtures in the second tier of German football. This sort of record would not stand them in good stead against many teams, but particularly not versus an Arminia Bielefeld side that has gone 1-0 up six times in seven attempts at home of late.
Portsmouth v Accrington Stanley – Portsmouth to score first
Portsmouth are the owners of a phenomenal recent record when it comes to opening the scoring on their own patch, doing so in 12 of their previous 15 fixtures in League One. Accrington, by way of contrast, have developed an unwelcome habit of conceding the first goal, with John Coleman’s charges finding themselves 1-0 down eight times in 12 attempts.
Santa Clara v Braga – Braga to score first
Braga have been cooking with some serious gas recently, collecting 28 points from a possible 30, and it is no coincidence that they have opened the scoring in each of the most recent eight of these encounters. Santa Clara, on the other hand, have found themselves 1-0 down in four of their last six home games at this level, conceding first to both Sporting Lisbon and Porto.
Eupen v Club Brugge – Club Brugge to score first
It is not a surprise to see Club Brugge doing so well when you consider just how often they have opened the scoring recently, with the Belgian giants grabbing a 1-0 lead in 14 of their previous 18 matches. Eupen, meanwhile, have conceded the first goal a worrying 12 times in 15 games at this level of late, so all the signs are pointing firmly in one direction here.
Team to Score First Tips and Predictions - Friday 6th to Monday 9th March
Girona v Albacete – Girona to score first
One of the major reasons as to why Albacete have been struggling to win matches recently has been their tendency to concede the opening goal, with this being the case in eight of their previous ten second-tier fixtures. Promotion-chasing Girona have endured no such difficulties on their own patch of late, however, grabbing a 1-0 lead seven times in eight attempts.
Anderlecht v Zulte Waregem – Anderlecht to score first
Anderlecht have not conceded the opening goal in any of their previous ten top-flight home matches, with the Belgian giants taking a 1-0 lead on seven occasions during this sequence. Mid-table Zulte Waregem, meanwhile, have developed a worrying habit of conceding first on the road, doing so in five of their last six fixtures at this elite level of the domestic game.
Slovan Liberec v Opava – Slovan Liberec to score first
Aside from a couple of 0-0 draws, Opava have conceded the opening goal in every single one of their last ten away games at this level, which probably goes a long way towards explaining why they haven’t won any of these matches. Slovan Liberec, on the other hand, boast an impressive recent record when it comes to scoring first, going 1-0 up seven times out of nine.
Lecce v AC Milan – AC Milan to score first
Over the course of their previous seven top-flight away games, AC Milan have taken a 1-0 lead on no fewer than six occasions, including four times in a row recently. Struggling Lecce, by way of contrast, have conceded the opening goal in ten of their 13 Serie A home matches this season, and confidence should be low following a 7-2 pummelling by Atalanta.
Team to Score First Tips and Predictions - Friday 28th February to Monday 2nd March
Benevento v Spezia – Benevento to score first
Runaway leaders Benevento boast an extraordinary record when it comes to opening the scoring in Serie B home games, doing so 12 times in 13 attempts during the current campaign. Like their hosts, Spezia are also on a long unbeaten run, though the promotion-chasing outfit have conceded the first goal in each of their last three second-tier fixtures.
Sevilla v Osasuna – Sevilla to score first
Over the course of their last 11 away fixtures in La Liga, Osasuna have fallen 1-0 behind in every game in which they have conceded, which accounts for nine matches of playing catch-up in total. Sevilla, on the other hand, have opened the scoring in 13 of their previous 17 encounters at the top table of Spanish football, including in a 1-1 draw at Osasuna.
Panionios v AEK Athens – AEK Athens to score first
AEK Athens are the proud owners of an impressive recent record when it comes to opening the scoring in top-flight matches, with the club from the capital doing so ten times in 13 attempts. The picture could not be much more different from a Panionios perspective, however, as the rock-bottom side have fallen 1-0 behind nine times in 11 league fixtures.
İstanbul Başakşehir v Gaziantep - İstanbul Başakşehir to score first
İstanbul Başakşehir have developed a welcome habit of scoring first in front of their own supporters, with the title-chasing outfit doing so in seven consecutive Süper Lig matches. This does not represent good news for Gaziantep, as they have fallen 1-0 behind in three away games on the bounce at this level, so all the signs are pointing in one direction.
Team to Score First Tips and Predictions - Friday 21st to Monday 24th February
Real Betis v Real Mallorca – Real Betis to score first
Real Mallorca have made 11 trips since securing a place back at the top table of Spanish football, with the common thread running throughout these games being the fact that they have fallen 1-0 behind. Real Betis have hardly been pulling up any trees when it comes to striking first, but they have grabbed the opener three times in four home matches of late.
Lens v Caen – Lens to score first
Caen are the owners of a dreadful recent record when it comes to conceding the first goal, doing so in eight of their previous 11 matches in the second tier of French football. This should be music to the ears of a Lens side that has excelled when it comes to opening the scoring on their own patch, as they have grabbed a 1-0 lead nine times in 12 games this term.
Crewe Alexandra v Macclesfield Town – Crewe Alexandra to score first
Macclesfield have collected just two points from the last 18 available on their travels, though this doesn’t start to sound so bad when you consider that they have fallen 1-0 behind in all of these games. Crewe, meanwhile, have opened the scoring in seven of their last eight home matches at this level, so all the signs are pointing firmly in one direction ahead of this clash.
Anderlecht v Eupen – Anderlecht to score first
Conceding the opening goal has become a real problem for Eupen in the top-flight recently, with the relegation-threatened outfit doing so in nine of their previous 12 matches. Anderlecht have endured no such difficulties on their own patch of late, breaking the deadlock in six of their last eight league games and drawing 0-0 in the other two encounters.
